3vzfe valve adjustment

hello all, I am new here. I have done some work on my 93 camry v6 with the 3vzfe. I did the head gaskets as well as all seals. I had a shop put in new valve seals and adjust the valves, I doubt they did either. the car runs good but is noisy and somewhat of a hard start. I think the timing is off and it needs a valve adjustment. what tools do I need to purchase to be able to adjust the valve clearance? is there a online manual for this? I think the guys at the shop that did the valve seals mixed up the shims and caused me a headache. thanks for your help.

A better reference for you would be a haynes or chiltons manual, $20 at any of the big auto stores around your area. As for everything else, um... I have absolutey no idea.

BTW.... Welcome to the Nation!!

adjsuting valves on most Toyota engines is not as easy as jsut pulling hte valve cover and uncrewing or screwing the adjauting screw. They use shims taht have to be removed and replaced to get the adjustment right. And there are tons of possible shims. If you get the manual opened up you can search it and youwills ee how it is done and all of the shims that could or could not be needed.

I wouldn't mind pulling the cams either if need be, I might as well do the timing belt while in there.

If you didnt use a service bolt to hold the exhaust cam sub gears in place they are out of alignment and not pre-meshing the scissor gears properly, this causes what sounds like valve noise.

nope

I had home depot quality service bolts, I still have them too. it just has lots of click clacks. I have to go back in to check the cam bearing clearance and check for excessive wear. so nobody here does a valve adjustment on this car? I found the tool, I was just curious as to where would a good place to buy it. plus there are a few of them for diff applications in the toyota line.
