Changed the Timing...Now Engine won't turn over...
Question..Just put a timing belt on the Camry. Checked the timing 3 times and everything was good to go...All marks lined up perfectly after 720* rotation... Hooked up a good battery and tried to turn it over and got absolutely nothing. It won't even turn over...
The Dome light comes on like it suppose to and the headlights turn on/off. With the Key in the Car, the door dings when I have it open...The Dash lights do not come on at all when I turn the key over.
I checked back over the wiring in the engine bay. I also checked the fuses..OK...I didn't take any wiring apart so I have no clue what this could be.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,
-Ben

Ok...Got it to turn over...The prevous owner busted one of the big fuses in the box and tried to jump it by bending over the two brass tongs. Jumped those and it turns over now...However it still does not start...
It's trying to start but won't. Smells like it's flooded now. I tested the fuel pump by the Hanes Manual (Jumped the two Pins in the Diagnostic Plug In) and it's buzzin so that is not it. Played with the Spark Plug wires a little...
It's bumpin while turning it over but just won't fire up...I'm getting a headache...
Suggestions???

It does now sound like a flooded engine. Try holding the excelerator pedal down to the floor as you crank it. That is the recommended procedure for starting a flooded engine; either fuel injected or old carburated engines. If that doesn't get it started, you might try taking the plugs out and blow them dry with some compressed air. They may be completely soaked with fuel and will not fire.
^^^ everything he said is right on. If you dont have compressed air you can also try using brake cleaner to clean them off and let the dry for a minute or so since it evaporates so quickly.

yeah jsut hold the pedal to the floor til it starts then go from there. It will probably run like crap for the first few seconds and it iwll still be ahrd to start jsut hold it to the floor and keep cranking once it tries to kick over.

chances are you left the plug unplugged from the distributor or something stupid like that...
otherwise, i can only think that you maye have some plug wires crossed, or that you did the timing wrong.

I wish it was that easy...I have tripple checked everything. As for the Fuse, I will try to find the proper one. It's one of those big square ones. I shoot a pic of what the Previous Owner Rigged up...Previous Owners Frustrate me...If you going to do something do it right...
Stay tuned and I will let you know what happens...
