Transmission Swap?

Does anyone have an idea what it would cost to swap an automatic tranny for a standard in my car? How many of you have done it already

what i learned from the tranny swap posts, is that it takes a long time, you'll have to find a doner car(which takes a long time to find one).

1992 V6....There is a manual available for your car, a few people have stick gen3 v6's. I wouldn't know much about swapping though...someone else can probably help you out.

As for cost, call your local junkyard and call your mechanic for quotes, price varies place by place. But don't expect this to cost anything less than 1.5Gs.

I know Ratko had a 1mz...is his swap relevant for the 3vz also? I would assume the 3vz manual and auto transmissions were interchangable for cost-friendly production...

so im looking about $2000 for a swap? nto bad i thought it would cost alot more. hmmm.......... fnow only if i can find someone who can do a 3s-gte for under $3000. so if you add everything up its only gonna cost me $5000 to get a sport car.

thats dumb. if you have true ambition and are resourceful, not only can you do a quality swap, but for quite cheap too.

after i pretty much did the first V6 auto-to-5spd swap... i can pretty much guarantee the next person to do it will have WAYY less trouble than I will.

when i have time ill update my swap page with new revelations ive learned, such as:
- the camry v6 5-spd trannies are same transmissions that are in MR2 turbo's, except with BETTER synchros, different gearing, and shifter linkage arraged differently for FWD mounting.
- the camry v6 flywheels are all the same from 92-00+ (not sure about newer ones) that includes the 3VZ and 1MZ... they are the same.
- since the tranmissions are basically all the same, that means that all V6 Camry and MR2 Turbo LSD's (limited slip differentials) will work in any V6 transmission from 92+ (good thing!)
- the best candidates for a tranny swap are V6 camrys from 92-94, 96-00+. this is because in these years the V6 engines had Manual transmission ECU's, which is a must if you want to have a flawless swap with no check-engine lights.

those were the major revelations ive discovered since my swap.... and if i remember any more, theyll be on my site.

latez.

First off, RATKO do you have that lift in your house? If so, I am completely jealous But if it isn't yours, do you know what kind it is? When I get a house, I want to build a garage and put one of those bad boys in it? Ah... dreams

Next, Are there different ECUs for manual and Auto? If so, when doing a swap shouldn't they be changed? I didn't see that you changed yours. Also, are the EGR pipes different for manual and auto? I have an SC and have been pondering doing a tranny swap on my 1MZFE, and thought that the EGR pipes were different.

By the way, congratulations for being the first (well that I know of) to complete this swap! It seems that the hardest part of doing the swap is rounding up all of the parts. How many hours did you labor on the swap?
