Gen5 starting concern

got off from work today...it was about 7 degrees celcius and it has been raining all day. got into the car and started it...seemed to not want to start. i think i held it there for a good 10 seconds. i let go of it...then start again and it worked fine.

anything i should be worried about here..i mean..it's not that cold out there..and if this is happening now....i am afraid of what will happen when winter comes.

any ideas as to what i can check?

Switch to Synthetic Oil? it'll help with cold starts? i dunno. Remember to turn off all electrical devices before starting including : headlights, anything in cigarette lighter plug, A/C, radio, etc.

Kind of confusing. Are you saying the first time you tried it that it would crank but just not fire? Or would it not even crank over on the first try. Two different symptoms. Each would probably take a different route to fix.

you prolly need a new battery, my 03 camry is starting to take longer to start on cold days here in NE as well. Im gonna need a new battery this winter i know it, escpecially because of my sound system.

Id think about getting a battery soon, If its not the battery you can always just return it and get your money back.

Like Gary said would the car not crank or did it crank and jsut not start.

Cold weather is a bitch on cars. Especially when starting.

Maybe someone else can chime in on this also dot do the Gen4's still ahv the cold start injector in the intake plenum. Maybe the cold start system is in need af some repairs. I know on the Gen3's we used to have to work on them some starting this time of the year.

If it cranked with no problem it is not the battery more than likely. Like I said in an earlier post the older ones ahd a cold start injector that was hooked up to a temp sensor for wehn you start it in the cold. I can not rememerb if the Gen4 has this or not since I quit working for Toyota right after the Gen 4 came out. You may want to check into this to see if it may be your problem.

I notice you're in Canada. Do they change the fuel blend for winter up there like they do in the US to reduce iceing and parafin that could clog injectors?

I assume they do and where you got gas may still have some of the summer blend of fuel.

Got to believe that since it cranked okay it could be the cold start system like cyorke said or possibly something to do with the dampness?
