Gen5 Installing Front Strut Brace & Rear Sway Bar

What is the torque on the Front Strut Brace & Rear Sway Bar.
Are there any special things to do on changing the rear sway bar? Or is it just jack up and replace it. Does anybody have a How-To?

Can I change the sway bar without lifting up the tires. I mean like on a ramp or something, or do they have to be in the air?

Common guys somebody tell me. Do I need to torque this thing or is it ok if I be careful, since I will have to go buy a torque wrench. Also do I need to lift the care of jack or ramp is fine. I am waiting to hear from you guys so I can go do the job right now.

Yeah, 54 is a mistake. It should be 59 ft-lbs. That is what the instructions for the TRD front strut tower brace say. You will need a 14mm socket to remove and install the nuts for the front strut tower bar. Get a 1/2 driver to do it. With an 8" long 3/8 ratchet, I could only torque the nuts to about 40 lbs. You'll need a 17mm socket and wrench to tighten down the nut and bolt where the feet connect to the center portion.

I can't help you out with the rear sway bar though. I don't have it and haven't ever messed with one.

i just wanted to ask, you posed a question before about if you needed to jackup the car before you changed the swaybar? i would like to know what happened with that? as i am going to install a RSB soon aswell.

^ Yes, and about the torque wrench as well. I'm getting my TRD brace soon, and I would need to go out and buy a torque wrench... if I don't need to, I'd rather not. Let me know.

If you have a long handle ratchet, ie 1/2" drive, you probably could use it in place of a torque wrench. But if you have a normal sized 3/8" ratchet handle, it's not long enough, unless you have a cheater bar to go with it or you are crazy strong. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't torque more than about 40lb with a 3/8" ratchet. I tightened the nuts down with the ratchet because it was faster than trying to use a torque wrench.

I removed the nuts with an impact though, so I have no idea how difficult it might be to remove with hand tools.

Ah ok, yeah. I've got a 1/2" drive long handle ratchet. Its got a killer grip on the handle, too! When I changed my spark plugs, it felt as though I put almost no effort in twisting them out. Thanks.
