05 Camry Slowing Down

When I am curising with the foot not on the pedal or accelerator, the car seems to have a sudden pull(very quick). is it shifting down? its an auto. if it is shifting down why is the pull so noticeable?

If you have the car on cruise control and you approach a decline or incline in the roadway you will feel this

the reason is that on the incline the car tends to slow down so the cruise control kicks in and accelerates to keep it at the speed which you had it set to

for instance you set the cruise at 65 and while approaching a incline the car will slow down so the cruise accellerates to keep it at 65

if you are going into a decline then same thing happens except the tranny shifts into a diffrent gear I think to slow it down so you feel another pull or push

I think it's shift down
I feel the same too
but it doesn't annoy me much as the shock is very small

may be it's something relate to our 5 speed transmission?

I rather it shift down early because I often feel more noticable shock when the car sudden shift down when I accelerate back from slow deceleration

change your transmition fuild... my old honda accord use to do something similar to that and once the fuilds where canged it was a much smoother shift....
you could always take it to a dealer or trusted mechanic and have them look at it.

It is not the fluid. The gen 5.5 trans fluid does not have a change interval

The 5spd Auto will downshift as you slow down. Personally it annoys me and I would like to turn it off. Brakes are so cheap, there is NO reason at all to put any extra load on the transmission. I think Toyota made an error in judgement with this design.
