is it worth it to get higher compression pistons and better piston rings to increase HP if i'm not gonna go turbo?

If you are going normally aspirated it would be a very good choice to increase compression. When I do my engine rebuild I am getting either 11:1 or 11.5:1 compression pistons made for mine. However with a higher compression you will have to use at least a high octane gas and probably some octane booster. I know with my rebuild I am going to be buying 103 octane plus putting in octane booster so I don't ping at all.

Go email JE pistons they can make you pistons for you. To put in higher compression pistons you would have to take off your heads and take your rods out. If you are just going to put higher compression pistons and not do anything I recommend you put at least all new seals and gaskets on there. But really I recommend you do stuff other than just pistons at the same time. I would suggest at least take the whole motor out and doing a rebuild maybe bore out the cylinders and get the pistons made for a bigger bore to have a bigger displacement for a little bit more power along with maybe milling the heads a little bit and 3 angle valve job and port and polishing the heads. Maybe get your cams regrinded too.

how bout a group buy on this forged high compression piston business? anyone willing to host one? i think this could turn out nice, since a lot of people probably aren't willing to turbo.

Thanks,
Dan

I don't think a group buy on just high compression pistons would work since there are a lot of people that want to turbo there motor and with a turbo you want lower compression. Maybe if there was a group but for a choice of high or low compression piston that could work but you would need it motor specific group buy as well.

not only that, but you can only do a group buy if its the same product. since there are 2 choices of engines for 4 applicable generations of camrys, a group buy is out of the picture.

before you go and buy anything big i strongly urge you to research until you are comfortable with toyota engines, and engines in general. try www.howstuffworks.com to learn about the engine, its a great online tool! you should know your stuff before doing any serious modding

In Canada you can run propane In theory at least. 102 octane street legal that means 11.5 to 12:1 without octane boost and up here its cheaper than gas with only a small performance hit.

I'm pretty sure it will work, my dad ran a Dodge maxivan, biggest ugliest rustiest thing you ever saw, with a 440 c.i. and 11.5 : 1 pistons on propane with a high rise intake manifold and headers. It ran on the street for 6 years. One hell of a sleeper heh, you shoulda seen the look on mustang 5.0 owner's faces when they got beat across the intersections. (no one wanted to sit behind that thing

He sold it to a farmer buddy of his who converted it to an irrigation pump and it is still running 9 years after the rebuild.
