Beat me to it. As long as the offset is close to what you ahve now then you should be ok. Factory offset is +38 I think so you dont want to stray from taht number very far. The offset should be stamped on the wheel somewhere or the guy you are wanting to buy from should be able to tell you waht it is.

I had 215/50/17 on my Gen3 wagon. With stock suspension the right height was pretty tall. It looked silly but wasn't unsafe. Sorry, I don't know about the offset.
Thanks for the info:
I went out and stuck my hand in between the tire and strut. The front has lots of room (stock wheels). The rear is to tight for my fat fingers. So it looks like any offset needs to be Negative or it will rub on the strut. Mind you the factory wheels are 15" X 6" and these are 17" X 8" (I think).
HOW MUCH OF A SPACER is OK? Are we just talking about 10 - 20 mm or more!?
I think the best test will be the fit test. Can't say i want to do this in someones driveway though.....
Thanks again,
/ra

This is just an FYI:
I tried the wheels on tonight and no dice.... They hit the rear struts. Spacer is required.
It was hard to walk away and leave them shiny nice wheels there with the new skins on them....
Recap: 17" X 8" 42, 215/50R17 Lexus wheels do not fit the rear of a 95 Camry

I will confirm that the offset on a stock 17x8 GS400 rim is a +50 offset. I will also confirm that the offset of a stock 17x7.5 IS300 rims also has a +50 offset. These rims will not fit on the Camry unfortunately as you have confirmed. Btw, may i ask how much the seller was asking for that wheel and tire combo?
i don't think those rims are OEM rims dude. If they're infact +42 offset, they must be replica's or the seller may have misinformed you on the offsets. You can check behind the rim and see the stamped specs of the rim. It should say TOYOTA / 17x8 / +50 offset.

Well....
I called our local Lexus dealer and told them what they were. he said +42.
I was looking at them in a poorly lit garage and did not look for a stamp. The LEXUS sitting next to them had never been in the rain ever. That ride was flawless and so were the wheels. They wer VERY NICE with no rash and NEW 95% pirrellie tires. I did fit them for and aft. $600 bucks was the accepting offer, he had them listed for $1000 originally, no takers and needed some cash. I am 95% certain they were the OEM wheels and you may be correct about the +50, I had no way to measure them.
My question is this: With an 8" Rim, What is the max backspace that will still fit the aft strut?
I found a place on the web that sells both OEM and aftermarket, both listed them as +42. So I am not sure what to think other then it doesn't matter now, someone else has them.
Here is what i ended up with, 17 X 7, +38 TSW Valcano's mainly caas I hate the mutli lug patterns and wanted something thats easy to clean, no rivets or sharp edges....

For $600 thats a pretty decent price. Although i think you can get cheaper if you really look around. I have OEM 17" Chrome GS400 rims and they are 17x8 with a +50 offset on my GS300. I don't think the dealer knows what he's talking about unless Lexus changed offsets on GS400 rims after a certain year. Who knows, i might be wrong but im pretty sure OEM offset is +50. Like the TSW's though!
