I'm looking for an easy way to see how to check if my 91 Camry is getting fuel. The car has sat for a long time and the starter just cranks and cranks with no hint of trying to fire. I'm thinking no spark or no fuel. Another member here gave me a great tip to check for spark, but I'm still looking for the fuel tip of the day.
ther eis a cold start injector tht is on the front side of the intake. You can uncsrew it slightly and turn the key to the on position. If fuel sprays out of it then you have fuel. It is located right in the middle of the front of the intake right above the number 2 and 3 spark plugs. There is a banjo bolt that attaches it to the intake. I think it is either a 12 or 14mm bolt ath holds it in place. I dont ahve any pictures but will see if I can find one.
added a link to autozone.com. If you scroll down to the information about the 2s-elc, 3sfe, and 54sfe you will see tieh intake manifold. looking at the picture in the middle of the intake manifold there looks to be a plate where there would be a Toyota emblem or something of taht nature. Directly under tht plate is the cold start injector.

Hey Chris,
Really appreciate the help on this one. That's a hell of an idea to check for fuel. I looked at the diagram and it's too small to tell whats what. I'm going to try to search the internet for a better diagram.
Also, I'm thinking it should have the same type hose as the injectors so it might be easy to find.
well I have tried looking all over to see if I can find a picture of what I am talking about and am not ahving any luck. Do you have a digital camera you could take a picture of your engine with. If so maybe I can try pointing it out for you.

The car is at my friends house. It's an emergency car for me, in the last 2 weeks I blew my transmission in my Lincoln and head gasket in my Mercedes. It hasn't been a good month.
I looked on line also with no luck. I think once I see the car tomorrow I might be able to find it. Does it have the same hoses/lines as the fuel injectors? That might be an easy way to spot it.
you cant miss it look right under the 2000 that is ont he intake plenum. It is right there. there s a metal line that comes fromthe left of the engine and the wiring comes form the right. It is right above the number 2 or 3 spark plug.

Well it sounds like I can't miss it. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I'm not sure what's wrong with the car. It has sat for 6 months. I had to jump the car. The starter would turn over no problem, but after 15 different times of cranking and cranking it would not start. It didn't even give me a hint of trying to start. That's why I'm thinking no fuel or no spark. I bought a new cap/rotor, plugs and fuel filter to install. I could use some luck on this one.
does it seem to crank real fast. It isnt the timing belt is it.
dysk8forlife was having this problem the other day and thought it was due to running through a large water puddle. Went through several different scenarios trying to get it running. Finally had it towed ot the dealer and voila the timing belt is broken.

It did seem to crank pretty fast. Now you got me thinking. Is the timing cover accessible to visually check?
yeah on the left hand side of the engine youwill see the cover. It is jsut black plastic with about 6 or 8 10mm screws holdingit in place. However if you are oing to be taking the distributor cap off you can check it there als. Take the cap off then crank the engine over. If the rotor in the distributor doesnt turn then the belt is broken.

Well taking the cap off sounds a hell of a lot easier. That will be the first thing I'll check. If timing belt is broken is it a fairly simple job or something I'm better walking away from. Is there possible damage from broken belt or not like the metal chains with debris inside the motor?
nah if the belt breaks you jsut replace it and youa re good to go. If it is broken though there are some other things you want to consider replacing also so you dont ahve to do it again. Make sure all teh cam, crank, and oil pump seals are not leaking. Check the water pump to make sure it is not going bad, you want to spin it and check for play inthe shaft, then you want to check the tensioner and idler pulleys for bad bearings. SPin them and listen for excessive noise.
as for replacing it, well I guess that depends on how comfortable you are doing it. I can say it is fairly easy because I have replaced probably a hundred or more since I used to work for a Toyota dealer as a tech. But even for a first timer it is not that hard. check taht autozone link I sent you ealier and go to the engine section then look for timing belt replacement instructions and see waht you think about it .

Sweet, thanks for everything Chris!
I'll let you know how it goes. If it's the timing belt, I'll just have it towed to my house where I have my tools and garage. I was trying to just drive it home, but it might not be that simple.
Appreciate all your help, just wish you were my neighbor.
