(Xpeed steps in to clarify on the difference between Japanese-Spec and US-Spec Camrys)
Basically, there's no name difference between the US and the Japanese Camrys. Both have the same name, same design, and interior, besides having the wheel on the right hand side.
Other than that, the only major difference between the US and Japanese Camrys are two things.
The Japanese models only comes with one engine option. The 2AZ-FE w/ VVT-i. (It's the same 2AZ-FE that the US models use.) Now here's the part that really gets me going. The Japanese-Spec Camry are also available in two drivetrains. They're available with the traditional FWD (2wd)or 4wd. They're also only have the 4-spd auto with Super ECT
Now the US-Spec Camrys are quite nicer. We have the luxury of choosing between three engines. The 2AZ-FE or the 1MZ-FE (V6)
2AZ-FE 2.4L= 154 HP
1MZ-FE 3.0L= 190 HP(LE V6 and XLE V6)
1MZ-FE 3.3L= 210 HP (SE V6 Only)
They're all brought to life by a 5-spd with ECT Tranny. Both Auto and Manual.
We also can choose between four models: Standard, LE, SE, XLE (Japan only comes with two models. The Touring and 2.4G.
a good mechanic is like a good bj giver- you always go the person that gave the service to you, and if they are not available - you just sit at home and fiddle with the problem yourself until a substandard result is met
The Camry has a standard edition as well? I thought the LE was the base model... or, at least for my year...
Philly
Well simply put, it's no longer called the "CE" model. Gen 5s CE are called the "Standard" models now.
The CEs are the base models. Everything on that car is done manually. Meaning, the windows are rolled up by hand, no alarm, black tone side mirrors, manual tractible seats, etc, etc.
They're available with the traditional FWD (2wd)or 4wd.
I knew I read this somewhere! Do you know if this option was avaiblable for Gen 3 Camry's?? This something I'd definitely look into swapping into my car
