Changing AT & diff fluid on 1987 Camry 2.0 DOHC. However STUPID I am, I inadvertently put 3 quarts of dexron 3 in the dipstick tube instead of the AT filler tube. HAVE NOT started vehicle (thank goodness). HAVE pulled oil drain plug.
What else should do or not do??? Looks like I get the Darwin award for working on vehicles this year.
Flush your engine... then put in new oil and new oil filter. You can flush with water or you can flush with a very low viscosity oil... I think it was something like 0w20 or 0w10 or something like that. Someone else can give you an exact one. Flush your engine 2 or 3 times to make sure you get everything out.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

Yeah that is all you need to do, Just drain all of the oil, after its empty pour in a qt of fresh oil with the plug out and allow it to drain through, and from there proceed like a basic oil change

Thanks for the quick responses. Just got back from wally-world with new filter & oil. Will run some wally-world oil through first then drain and change.
Again, I really appreciate the help. When the Darwin awards come out, I'll be the one with ATF and egg all over my face.
^Don't treat me like I'm some idiot. I've seen it done before, and it works. Water is a polar molecule, and oil is non-polar. In water, oil molecules rise to the top. Thus, the water picks up oil molecules and flushes them out.
I never said not to flush with oil afterwards.

I am confused by the first post. You say you put Dexron in the dipstick tube instead of the filler tube. Well on an automatic transmission you fill it throug the dipstick tube. Mayeb you should rephrase the question so it is better understood. It seems as if everyone is telling you to flush your engine when it sounds as if you ewre not even changing the oil you were changing the trans fluid.
Or am I jsut making all of this up.

If all you did was put trans fluid in the engine oil dont worry about it that much. Just drain it and refill it. Some trans fluid in your engine oil is not going to hurt anything. I usd to have an instructor at auto/diesel college that actually ran trans fluid in his car at every oil change. He would fill his oil minus one quart adn then the remaining quart that was needed he put in trans fluid..

yeah Trans fluid has som much detergent in it. When you ahve hydraulic lifters and things like that it will help keep them from clogging is how it ws explained. Jsut helps keep all the small orifices unclogged.

Was changing ATF cause the ATF was almost black (I bought this car a week ago). When I pulled the oil dipstick, the oil on the dipstick looked like the ATF. So, of course this is where the ATF must go. Used a pump that I pump lower unit oil into my boat motor cause the filler tube was too small for funnel (Shoulda been first clue). Oh well, Bought a 5 quart container of 5/30 at wally-world & ran through 3 different intervals. Last one the oil looked like honey. Filled up with ATF (in the RIGHT tube), changed OIL filter, filled up with 10/30 then test drive. Hit I-40, run up to a little over 100 MPH with no problems. Will change motor oil again tomorrow.
