I just got a remote start a Fry's. I know i got raped over it when i could have gotten it cheaper at ebay, but i could not resist it. They said they charged 180 to install =/. But i feel tempted to atleast try itt myself. What do you guys think.. those that know me, can guess ill fuck up something, but I CANT resist trying it. Is it really that difficult? I installed springs without knowing shit if it helps to give you an idea of how crazy i am. You think i should try it? ill give you guys more details later when i come back from work about the type i bought.
Me and a friend (mostly him) installed one w/ alarm. I do not recomend you do it yourself. It is very dificult and the instructions are insane, they are generic for every car so they are not step by step instructions for your camry. It also requires to splice into your ignition system (under steering wheel) and a signal wire from some where in the TPS or injector or something, so the little ECU knows when car is on and disingages the starter.
It is not imposible for you to do, but get wiring diagrams, and a voltmeter, and have an internet conection ready to ask people questions.

I put a BOA remote start/keyless entry in my wife's 97 Camry. It was pretty easy but I had to cross check their instructions with my Haynes manual wiring diagrams. Their diagrams were wrong for my car on some of the hookups. The only way to verify the correct wire before cutting into them is with a correct diagram and a good multimeter.
I know a guy who had a prelude, stick. He installed remote start. He parked it on a driveway, with the gear in 1st since it was icy out. Next day he remote started it. Prelude went on its own out into a street and garbage truck smashed into it.
Argh i still feel the need 2 try it. I bought a Clifford Matrix remote start. It was 180 i could have gotten a viper on ebay with that, but see i hate to wait for delivery. haha

If you have a manual, don't be like this moron.
I put a viper remote start/keyless entry/alarm into my standard Tercel and it works perfectly.
Made a magnetic neutral switch and the parking brake has to be on as well.
It's not a horrible job, but there are alot of wires to find places for.
(the trickier part was fitting door lock motors, Tercels never came with power locks)
HAHAHA most are no if not all, but i can read manauls. I am good at following directions. Ill go see if i can find the cables it says in the manual, if not ill drop it.
OK guys officially PWNED!! i know i messed up, now i will ask a question. INstead of saying I TOLD YOU try to help me plz haha. Point is, engine wont start. (lol) I cut a wire of the ignition and put it back and now the clock radio and engine wont even crank, i tried to unplug the battery and put it back but no luck. Any clues i go in at work at 1 =(
Start checking fuses. BTW, I have two remote starter/door lock control units sitting in their boxes because after I looked at the wiring diagrams vs the manual diagrams, I knew I didn't want to tackle the job and I'm an electronic tech. (To really help I think we would need a lot more info. Did you cut only one wire? Did you do anything else? What wire? etc.) The instructions that came with mine said not to cut wires- just strip off some insulation and solder on the unit's wire. Best of luck.
It STT wire, i thought it was the starter wire hahaha god i so stupid. It says to cut it, but then i tried to put it back and nop. The fuses, which fuse i tried the clock fuse but it was normal, and the check engine light now appears HAHA fuck i am going to be late for work.
