ive never had such a hard time finding a decent tire. every site i look at has a huge selection but each tires has such wildly swinging reviews. for example: people with say 4k miles on a particular tire say its bald already and its terribly loud. the next review will say theyve had them for 40k miles and they are still in good shape and a nice and quiet!. now obviously tire wear depends on how you drive but some of this shit is ridiculous. so now i cant go by these stupid customer reviews because you cant tell who the fuck knows what they are talking about. anyway... im looking for a 215(225?)/50/17 for my gen3 if anyone has a personal recommendation for a tire in the 100-150 dollar price range, please share.
I have Continental Extreme Contact, 215/50/17 on my Camry. The tires have very good wet and dry traction. I can't say for snow since it doesn't snow here. I've had them for 25,000 miles and they're still in good condition. I expect that they'll last maybe another 10,000 miles or so. The tires have a very strange sidewall design, but I could really care less. Tire noise has been minimal so far, but some rougher roads do cause them to generate a humming noise, but I suspect all tires do that on those roads. When I put these tires on, I was expecting a harsh ride compared to the stock 15s, but the ride is only mildly stiffer, but the handling is much improved.
I do mostly conservative highway driving, but I have fun in the twisties, the down hill portion anyways. I have seldom broke traction wet or dry unless I was being crazy stupid and intentionally trying to make my tires sqeal or chirp. Otherwise, the capabilities of these tires far exceed those of my car.
Goodyear Eagle F1's, its what I bought and like them if you don' drive in snow. Great in rain, won a recent tire test in Car & driver or road and track, this month.
yes, those were also a choice of mine, but i live in the northeast so i need at least some snow traction. i wound up getting the continental extreme contacts in 215/50/17 and they just barely make clearance to the strut in the rear mounted to a 17x7 +43 offset wheel. so far so good. but i have to get passed the "anything is better than what was on there" phase and let them break in before i can get a reasonable opinion on them. ill get some pics this week too.
haha nah they were shipped right away, just sitting around the garage till i got the tires. yeah alignment is a must, kinda pulls ever so slightly to the left..nothing major, but once everything is done, gotta have it all straight.
ive got big plans for spring time, say goodbye to the 5sfe, hello 3sgte.
update, here they are mounted and installed. should look a little better once its dropped a bit. altho i dont want to go too low due to practicallity. i live in NYC and let me tell you, i believe the damn romans had better roads.
in the 1st picture of the wheels in the box...the wheels look more greyish..and on the picture of the wheels on the car...looks a bit of bronze colored...
but the wheels are gunmetal right??
funny thing is, i ordered the same mb motoring wheels (weapons) in gunmetal back in late october and still back ordered... (but yea, before this thread )
i actually did my own cheap paint-skill photoshop of the car in white
you can see how eagered i am to get a feel of hows its gonna look like on my white car
