my engine knocks at 41K!!!!
what a piece of crap! I just found out that 95-01 toyotas with 4 and 6 cyl engines have a sludge buildup problem (even with customer regular maintainance).
why no one cared to mention the sludge problem with those motors!!!
I did a little research on the net by typing toyota sludge and it turns out that most Toyota engines have the same problem and manufacture just letly acknowledged the problem....
thanks alot for $1800 repair....
no more toyata for me! second car i have problems with...
someone should make those jap's do something to refund or help all the people that got
screwed up by their faulty motors!
1. Your car is under warranty for 5 year/60k powertrain. You have to contact a dealer and using your VIN find out your Date of 1st use. Your 5yr starts from that date so you might still be covered.
2. The engine sludge issue affects the 3.0 liter V6 engine also known as the 1MZ-FE. For those of us including myself who have this engine there is a TSB (Toyota Service Bulletin) that extends our engine coverage against sludge and sludge related issues for 8 years from 1st use and unlimited miles. Let me know if I can be of any help. Jon.

I would start pouring synthetic (RP or Amsoil) in it . I would doubt there are any leaks developed at 41K and think that it will be safe using synthetic which will take the shit outta there. If you don't feel it safe than here is your another option www.auto-rx.com I have tried it and works great. $100 and your camry is good to go. If you have any questions about the auto-rx product than go to www.bobistheoilguy.com
And to let you know... you are probably the second person (at least from when i joined) to complain about this happening, so don't think EVERY camry out there is a piece. They're a good car, just with a tiny problem.

HAHA Let me tell you first that no car is perfect! Then if by "regular maintinence" you mean the cheapest oil from Wal-mart and the cheapest crap gasoline from the no name gas stations just don`t drive no more!!! I switched to Mobil 1 (before i was using Castrol GTX) and since i got the car (58k) i put only 93 gas from brand name stations... Let me tell you now with 80k sometimes i can`t hear my engine working.... so... good luck
(i got a v6 by the way )
so he drove 41k without an oil change im guessing...
kand hard for the oil pump to shift around old jello.

so my 96 V6 is subject to sludging? is that why theres carbor build up in the oil cap filler hole when i look in my camry? Going to change the valvecover gaskets soon ( i said that i was going to do it this past weekend but had no money) anyways i have to order the gasket set from autozone which comes with the spark plug tube whasher things.
