Caught in the middle of a 3-car pileup this weekend
Travelling on a mid-city highway, a police officer ran a red through an intersection, causing the driver ahead of me (sunfire) to slam on his breaks.
I ran into the rear of him, damage was marginal.
Split second later, the driver behind me (Civic Si) smashed HARD into me, samwitching me between the both of them.
My ass end ended up on the hood of the Civic, and the guy ahead of me pool-balled further into the intersection.
The Sunfire ahead of me has minimal damage (1-2grand).. I haven't gotten my quote yet but I'm assuming 6-7 grand, and the Civic Si behind me is a complete write-off. The little 1.6L was laying sideways in the engine bay.
Now, as for insurance.. I don't mind paying for the head cars damages, but because the rear car smashed me from behing.. pushing me into the guy ahead as well, i'm HOPING that the rear car's insurance will pay for ALL my damages, front and back.
Money aside, I walked away unharmed, thank you Camry.
Then the Civic hit me, which in turn hit the sunfire more.
The police are labelling is as two complete seperate accidents though, and that might not work in my favour if I need the guy behind me to pay for my front-end damages as well.
police officers, atleast state patrol in US, are required when running a red light signal to slow their speed to half the legal limit. ie. speed limit 30MPH- police must slow to 15MPH through a red light/stop sign.
did the officer have his lights AND siren on? could you hear a siren?

DAMN!! Camry curse strikes another Camry driver in the same weekend!
Bro, I feel you pain b/c I was in the EXACT SAME SITUATION on Saturday (minus the cop car). I'm in the middle of a 3-car pile up. Damage is prolly less than yours, tho. You might be able to find my thread "Camry curse strikes again!".
I'm going with the explanation given by JMsinMD..."I was pushed into the car in front"
Sorry to hear about that, and talk to your insurance company and the cops about it not being two separate accidents. One was separate, you and the Sunfire, but the second accident involved all three cars. Make the Civic driver pay!
a good mechanic is like a good bj giver- you always go the person that gave the service to you, and if they are not available - you just sit at home and fiddle with the problem yourself until a substandard result is met
Damn, dude... that sucks. Here's what you do: Get an estimate on paper from someone who you personally know who owns a shop that equalls or exceeds the damages in the rear to the damages in the front, and another estimate from a friend of theirs that is slightly lower than their's. In the event that the Civic's insurance doesn't cover your front damages, whip out the estimates to the insurance company, and there you go. If they don't want to pay, take it to small claims, and you've got yourself your money for the front damages.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
Thanks for your support everyone. "camry curse" hey?
Also, that's awful that the same thing happened to someone else this weekend.
Update though: Now that the inspaection place hoisted my car, they found that My gas tank has ruptured. I thought it was just the spare tire well that was bent up. I assumed that my gas tank was under the rear seats? How could that accident have ruptured my gas tank? Long story short, the damage quote in the rear might be considerably higher than previously stated.
Also: all of those prices are in CANADIAN dollars. Just to clarify.
Lastly, that's my girlfriend in the picture next to my car. (the those who asked)
Daaaamn... you might as well look for a new camry ... thats almost (not in my eyes) worth fixing. I'll join the bandwagon and say part it out and buy a new cam!
It's good to hear that you are safe though
