problem with 5th gear (manual)

Hi,
I'm new here and this is my first post
J

I have Camry 2005. I bought 3 months ago. I had Echo 2001, with manual shift too.
The problem I have is shaking/vibrating shift stick while in 5th gear. I don't have the problem in any other gear but 5th. And, it's shaking ONLY when I pres gas pedal. Once I release gas pedal stick will stop vibrating.
Also, if I pull just a little bit the stick backwards it will stop vibrating too.

I don’t feel any other problem with car and it’s maybe more “annoying” thing then real problem J

I talked to 3 men they really know about cars and all of them told me the same thing: nothing serious but I have to fix that once I’m inspecting car. Specially while the car is under Warranty.

I was in the Service and guy said that it’s “normal” and nothing to be fixed. He took the car anyway, but after I picked up the car nothing changed. Same thing.

I had 10,000 miles inspection last weekend and requested to fix my shift problem. A supervisor was on the test ride with me and he told me that he don’t remember something like that before but never tried manual Camry too and he was “positive” that nothing’s wrong.
He took the car to the service but later on “explained” to me that it’s something normal and “regular”.

I can’t accept that because I didn’t have a problem with my manual Echo and never heard something like that is “normal”. Doeasn’t make a sense.

Did anybody have/had same problem?

I would appreciate for any opinion/suggestion.

Thanks.

That problem is definitely normal, it's just using the mechanics of power transfer between the engine and the gears. I've noticed that too on my 99' V6 5 speed manual, when you apply the engine torque, it will grab the gear, and when you let off, it goes away because no extra torque is added. Don't worry it shouldn't be a problem

my 03 SE 4cyl stick shift does the same thing as you described since the day i own it with 4 miles on the odometer, i also brought it to the dealer and they told me it is normal, i've driving it with vibrating 5th gear, and used to it. just don't rest ur hand on the shifter and you won't even realize it. i know how you feel, cus i have a 93 5sfe stick shift and 99 1mz stick shift, and both do not have vibrating 5th gear shifter.

What RPM are you at when its bad?

Guys -
Give us some details on when you shift, what RPM Up Hill/Down Hill ect -

Lets say from 2500 RPM - and up on flat ground, does it do it then?

Just thinking....

it will do it in lower rpm more then a higher rpm.. if your ein 5th at low rpm then youre loading the engine quite heavily.
