Dino oil to full synthetic back. Possible to go back to dino oil?
Hi,
Took my car in for an oil change today.
Told the service mgr that i wanted 10-30 castrol.
40 min later, when i was paying and the cashier told me $41.xx. I almost jumped out from my shoes. Usually, I pay $23-25max for 10-30 castrol (dino oil), as i never like their stock kendall 5-30.
They put in 10-30 castrol full synthetic. It was pass 7pm and the service mgr left and i was too tired to make a scene.
Question,
i was using dino oil all the time, and now, it's full synthetic.
can i go back to dino oil in my next oil change or partial synthetic without any oil leaks, drips, etc.
^Why not do your own oil changes? I put in full synthetic in mine for $20 oil + $3 filter...
Otherwise, you're going to run into problems switching back most likely. Some people developed heavy smoke from the muffler when going back, and lots of people have developed leaks.

i cant se problems... youre stayig at the same weight of oil. if you went thinner you might get oil where it wasnt b4.
synth just handle sit better at colder temps.. if that.. it also lasts longer.

would be nice to change my oil.
1) i live in an apt
2) no where to dispose the oil
i might just stick with full synthetic to prevent major problems..

what tools do you need? jack or do you crawl under your car?
I bought a $25 2 1/4 ton jack from Pep Boys, and 2 3-ton jack stands for $25. Just jack up from the center, and place the jack stands on the side, and drop it down on the stands. Then all you need is a 14mm socket wrench (just in case, make sure you have one with a long handle if the bolt is too tight) and I also bought an oil filter tool from Pep Boys for about $3 because the filter can get pretty tight, especially if its still hot when you try to take it out, so the tool grabs onto it nicely. And also, I bought an oil catch can for about $5. Thats about all that you need. Keep some empty gallons around to pour the old oil into to transport it to Autozone.

If you change it next time to reg you'll be fine. The problem comes in after long term use of syn to dino. I personally change my own oil. Might take me 20-30 minutes top using Mobil 1 10W-30 "Long Term i.e. made to last 15,000 miles between changes" (though I change it every 12k) and Mobil 1 Filter. Between the oil and filter I pay $35 but again that's every 12k miles. I buy my oil in a 5 qt jug so I don't have to worry about recycling it. After I drain my old oil into an oil pan and refill with the new oil I just pour the old into the empty container and take it to any autoparts store to recycle. Jon.
On the other hand, Mobil 1 guarantees that if anything goes wrong with your engine due to their recommendation for oil change intervals they will pay parts and labor. Also if you think about it you have places like Jiffy Lube saying every 3k miles as do most shops. It would only make sense for Mobil 1 to say the same thing to sell more oil but in fact they don't. Mobil 1 is OEM in Dodge Vipers, Aston Martins, etc, etc, etc. I'm running 4 psi on my Camry and want only the best but I trust Mobil 1. Jon.
it feels odd not doing changes at 5k intervals...just odd....every so often i feel the urge to change the oil...argggh started at 107k, now at 112k
