No I'm not affiliated with these guys either but I found the Auto Dimming mirrors for about the same price shipped to my door and if you use this coupon code you can get it for 10% less. oct321. I'm not sure how long the coupon code is good for but I got a auto dimming mirror with temp and home link and I love it.
i see how the compass is helpful... but is the auto-dimming THAT usefull? i think its just an extra convinience not really worth the money...anyone else think so?

If you have sensitive eyes, yes, it's worth it. I bought one for my 98 Camry like 3 years ago, and although I rarely use the compass, I really like the auto dimming feature.
I have sensitive eyes and when a big SUV is behind me at night, with it's headlight blasting right into my back window, I really like how the mirror always knows how much to dim the mirror so that it doesn't blind me. The mirror really is a cool little gadget... it has a sensor on the back that checks for how dark it is outside, and it takes that in to account when it dims the actual mirror. (Basically, it won't dim as much in the city at night, because of the street lights. When you drive out in the country at night, when it's pitch black out, it dims fully)
The only trouble is, now when I drive a car w/o an auto dimming mirror, headlights blasting through the back window really blind me, because I'm so used to a mirror that always dims.
Thanx for the find. I've been looking for a mirror with a compass for a while for my 98 Cam.
They sell this one on ebay too but its $205 + shipping.
I live in Chicago.
How do i proceed with buying the mirror?
Okay, figured how to purchase it.

Are there any Non-auto-dimming mirrors that have a compass out there? I'm gonna tint my windows and i think that'll be enough light dimness for me. I don't even wanna buy the mirror for the auto-dim, i just want it for the compasss.
So are there any regular rear-view mirrors with a quality Compass built in for a 1998 Camry?
When I first saw these I thought "you really have to be kidding me. How lazy can a person be?" but then I drove my friends car back from the airport really late one night and found the joys of the auto dimming mirror. I've added one to both of my cars now. It really helps and is safer. It just dims before I even have to think about it.
Anyway I'm hooked and with the added homelink feature, they are awesome.
No more digging for the remote or having it fall off the visor. ... or maybe i'm just really lazy either way I love mine. lol!
I have a auto dimming mirror w/ compass and outside temp. I'll be honest the auto-dimm was a pleasure to use. But when i got my car tinted, i don't notice the dimm part anymore. If you are already tinted or plan on tinting, the auto-dimm feature will be pretty useless. The compass and the temp..now those are worth talking about and i use them nicely!
auto-dimming mirrors are allright, dads got one on his highlander.
o.t. sorta, does anyone have a wide angle BroadWay clipon type rearview mirror? i've been wanting one, do you know if their really worth it? thanks.
if your not familar click here
I think the Gentex mirrors are nice to have. I have used them in other cars including tinted windows. They work with the tint as it adjusts for the glare coming through the tints, you know those guys with their xenon bulbs trying to blast ufos. You can also get them from junk yards. I was shopping for one a while back, but I like the outside temp sensor addon too. My shopping list has grown though.
I just flip the mirror up when driving at night. It cuts out a lot of glare and it's good enough for me. I haven't done so since I got the tint on the back window though. If you don't know what I'm talking about, there's a little tab at the bottom of the miror, pull it towards you and it flips the mirror up to reduce glare. Push it away to flip down for normal mode.
Anyone know how the install of the autodimming mirror is? I imagine its pretty easy, but are any of the camrys pre wired for the toyota auto dim mirror or do you just splice it into the dome light or something?
