Help Pleeeaasse!!!!!!

I have a 1990 and I have been experiencing some problems. Last week the car overheated and what my mechanic discovered was that the radiator fan on the passenger side had melted and obviously not functioning......I bought a new fan, he installed it but it still did not work. Then after we installled the new fan neither of the fans worked.

My mechanic thinks it might be the fan relay because when he touched the relay, it was very hot and he was concerned. I have not replaced the relay yet. He did however take the relay out and replaced it with something so now one of the fans does work (driver's side) but it stays on and only turns off when the car is turned off?

I wondering if anyone could help me...what would make the fan melt and why aren't the fans working now???Any suggestions......Thanks in advance.

me thinks it might be time to find another mechanic. he just jumped the relay, basically completely the circuit that the relay is failing to complete. try changing the relay first. it may be a bit pricey new, but you should be able to find one pretty easy in a junkyard that you could pocket.

Thanks, I did buy the relay and I am going to find a new mechanic. Hopefully that will work.
