Don't you like the current size tire? I think the 195's will look a little dorky myself.

I wouldn't do it

You would be better off with 195/70/15 <-- this is closer to stock size (only 1% off)

If you used a 195/60/15 you will be closer to 5% off and your car will feel more like a go cart

Questions

It's easy to say no but the first question to ask is why?

In snow a skinnier tire is better and the inverse is true during the summer.

I personally recommend googling Miata Tire Calculator so you can input your stock tire dimensions and play around with width and sidewall to get the least amount of difference in tire dimension.

I would also recommend looking at discounttiredirect.com and tirerack.com for good prices on tires. I'm a little leary about ebay when it comes to things like that.

Whenever a question about tires comes up I always recommend my favorite which I have since placed on every car in the family which is the Yokohama Avid H4s. . Jon.

Suggestions

I would look into 195/70 15 or 195/65 15. My old 92 Camry I4 came with a 195/70 14 so I wouldnt recommend going any narrower than 195 and you are dealing with a 15" wheel so the only variable is still the sidewall (i.e. 70 or 65 series). The only two tire brands I recommend would be the aforementioned Yokohama or Pirelli. If Goodyear, Bridgestone, etc gave me tires for free I would have to really put some thought if I would keep them, more trouble than they're worth. Michelin's have the name but I think they rely on that more than quality and drivability. Jon.

Back home the sell tires w/ ~3mm metal studs in them. They use it to lessen tread wear but i would think that they are designed for the snow.

Getting to the point, wouldn't tires like these help with traction during the snow? Maybe that would be something to look at. rather than trying to get skinnyer tires
