where to buy struts/springs...

1999 Toyota Camry - 4cyl - auto

Just wondering where I can find a good deal on struts and springs. I'm leaning towards kyb's or tokico's, but I'm really looking for whatever is worth the money (better suspension and drop of no more than 1.5'). I saw a link once for a tokico package that was a decent price, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I searched TN's directory and affiliates sections, but unless I missed something I didn't see anything about struts.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any buying advice?

Thx.

i know this isnt really helping the topic...but how do insurance companies take to using these sort of shocks? Say if you got into an accident...could they not pay you money for damages because you werent using approved equiptment etc?

I don't do insurance, and I would assume it would vary among the different carriers, but I believe the accident would have to be caused by the suspension ro at least the suspension would have to be in question.

If I rear end someone, what does that have to do with suspension? Or if they hit me?

I would also imagine that so long as the equipment and installation are in order, aftermarket parts are fine.

- To everyone else, thanks for the info, I totally forgot about ebay.

Thx.

Don't claim your aftermarket mods on your suspension and they don't care....

as for insurance, most likely they do not care if it is a fender bender.

if it is something like going on the highway and ur shocks / springs gave way and that caused a pile up as you lost control, they will definately have something to say.

if ur car is a write off, then u just lost $$ on a $xxx set of struts as they will not let you remove it at all. i.e. you have some diamond studded rims and ur car is a write off, then kiss ur rims good buy unless u buy back your car

hmm thanks for all the info. I would understand the fender benders and little property damage, but as i was talking to a few different mechanics about modding my car they warned me about insurance companies. They stated at if i were involved in an accident that totaled 1 or more cars and/or had bodily injury to any party involved the insurance company could fight back and blame it on aftermarket parts as that was not orginally put on the car by toyota. So i guess the onlything that insurance would cover (besides if i specifically asked them), would be TRD parts installed by the toyota dealer.

I mean what good is insurance if you give them an excuse to not cover an accident...thats sort of what you pay it for.

But anyways thats how all of them told me and i just wanted to get more perspectives...perhaps a person who has actually got into a serious accident if the insurance companies cared or not.

I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving and stay dry if you're out in cali.

i know where you are coming from and if the insurance company have to pay a lot of $$ for the accident, they will try to minimize their loss by identifying other plausible causes of the accident.
i.e. strut was not correctly installed.

I would not be suprise to read the policy agreement and find out something like that (in font size of 3) stating that they are not liable or will not insure if you modify anything that does not meet factory specs.

It's a good topic, and I would like to know more too. You should start a new thread maybe in the general discussion forum to find out more. I am sure one of these members with a modded car (even if it's not a camry) can share their story with us.

I know one thing and that's insurance won't cover the cost of the parts. So if you dropped 20k on your car, most of it won't be covered. I have heard of insurance companies that specialize in classic , restored and modded vehicles, but I can't remember names off hand. I assume they would have no problem covering you in an accident so long as you reported all the mods up front or as they come.

Thx.

Yeah to answer your question.. I had Tein S.Techs on my '01 and was VERY pleased... wanted more of a drop but it was an awesome ride..... but you said you didn't want bigger than a 1.5 so my suggestion would be Tein S.Techs or Eibachs.... from ebaymotors.com

but I'm a sellout.............. what would I know?
