I used a disc grinder to get it off. Careful not to grind too much, the exhaust is galvanised steel or something and the coating may come off. Silly camry exhaust sticks out like a sore thumb.
Perfect time for an aftermarket exhaust system. Or, I agree with the oven cleaner/paint scraper idea. Never done it, but it sounds promising. Good luck.
a good mechanic is like a good bj giver- you always go the person that gave the service to you, and if they are not available - you just sit at home and fiddle with the problem yourself until a substandard result is met
I have a black plastic bag stuck on the pipe also, it's been smellin real bad for past few months. I got scared at first, smoke would be comin out when i stop, scared other drivers too.
i had the same problem a while back as well. It stank really bad when the car was parked after traveling around. After I drove and got back from school, I got under the car with a paint scraper and scraped it off since it was still hot and soft. There a bit of the plastic that is caked on the exhuast, but it was too difficult to get off. But it does not stink anymore.
