its a 86 Camry, 5 speed, and when starting off in first gear, once u get the clutch let all the way out the car will start jerking, not a little jerk, but very, very hard jerks and half the time it will do this on start off, no matter how much gas u give it. and even if your coasting, say u downshift into second and coast a ways then it will start jerking at a lower rpm. usually when i shift into second from first its fine, but even then it will still jerk alittle. anyone know whats going on?? thanks
yea, the idle is very stable. when in first gear and it starts jerking, if u floor it most times it will make it go away. and it never does this jerking thing above second gear, its always first and second...dont know if that helps any
Sounds more like the engine is missing under load. That is usually an ignition system problem. Start with the basics. Check spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor. Also check the plugs wires for resistance with a DVM. They should be around 7000 ohms per foot of wire through the cap. I wouldn't be surprised if you found one or two of the wires had an open circuit.
it doesnt do it in reverse, so that would rule out the engine missing under load. the plugs and wires are new, i will still check them though, and replace the distributor cap. sounds like everyone is saying the mounts, so i will just replace those.
Try reving the motor while being parked,or engaging in first gear with the parking brake applied. If the mounts are shot, the motor will twist abnormally.
Find a helper, easy to see when they need to be replaced.
