Camry got rear ended!!

My wife got hit by some chick in a '00 4runner.

http://home.houston.rr.com/ourmustang/mustang/ouch.jpg

Their bumper went right over the top of ours. It took out the trunk lid and curled the left rear quarter panel. I hope the quarter can be pulled back out because there is no crease in the metal. The bumper supports are fine and so is the trunk floor.

The ironic part is that her husband owns a body shop! Being the nice people we are we didn't call the cops and let him fix it ouside of insurance. The car was hit the day before Thanksgiving, and he delivered me a loaner Thanksgiving morning (his wife's 4runner). He said it should be done tomorrow.

I'll let you know how it goes, definitely faster than through the insurance company.

Good thing no one was injured.

I don't know, being nice and not calling the cops is one thing, but I wouldn't be comfortable not calling the cops with that kind of damage. It is just me, I guess, I don't trust people in these situations. Who knows, they might rip you off, manipulate the legal system and get away with it, and get screwed over. I may be biased, but I have heard too many stories of getting hit, them begging not to call the cops so they don't, give many promises (Oh I pay for the car, and hospital bills blah blah) and just disappears, and the victim gets screwed over since he was a nice guy.

It is always a good idea to have a third person to intervene (cop) with that kind of damage.

But I guess he brought a loaner car, so maybe he really is an honest guy.

Oh my... that's several thousand dollars worth of damage.... I hope your luck continues with the repairs. Glad no one was hurt. I wish you the best with your car's recovery.

as long as no one was hurt

and that's actually not too bad....it can be fixed for probably around a grand if you have hookups...it's the paint that'll cost the most

Everyone was thankfully fine.

We pulled the bumper cover before he took it to his shop, and everything looked good underneath. Like I said he got me a replacement car the day after, when he took the Camry. Worst case scenario is I'm not giving back his '00 4runner until I get my '97 Camrty back in acceptable repair.

If I need to get mean I'll part his truck out on ebay

I take it that the 4-Runner suffered no/minimal damage?

Glad she's ok.. I got rear ended by a cab around this time last year and his car went underneath my Camry to the point where my rear wheels were 5 inches from his windshield.. Car held up pretty good..

Hopefully yours can be fixed back to perfection.

probably will work out just fine. liuke you said, if you get bitten, just part out his 4Runner.... your car doesnt look too bad at all. my father owns a body shop and as long as the floor pan isnt buckled, you should be just fine. like i said, hope it all works out for you!

I got the car back yesterday, it looks good. He replaced the trunk (used Toyota part), and the bumper cover. The quarter pulled out fine, and the paint matched great. I'll post a picture later.

I was happy with the whole deal. His wife blasted us on Tuesday afternoon, and I've got the car fixed back in my driveway on Sunday afternoon of Thanksgiving weekend. I burned through a tank of gas on his 4runner too
