You know the bit about "Just broke in at 100,000 miles"???????

Well, at 110,000 miles, I literally just recorded the best gas mileage EVARRR in my '98 2.2L 4spd auto.

Is there any reason to buy a newer Camry??? (No)

About the best I'd ever recorded was right around 30mpg. (One trip to Vegas I got 30.5mpg but it was a winter trip so no a/c, etc.)

This weekend I went up to the old man's house on the Central Coast & recorded 233 miles up there & 231 miles back for a total of 464. Filled back up w/ 13.74 gallons of gas........

33.7mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent about $1K on it at the local Toyota dealer to let 'em do EVERYTHING.......(TB, WP, Filters, belts, seals, full tuneup, etc. etc. etc.).......and not that it ran bad before, but it literally runs as good today as it did on day ONE!!!

I've never owned a car that got better mpg than the EPA estimates & certainly not after 100,000 miles!!! And considering that I'm not a big fan of Gen 5's, I don't know that there's any reason to consider any other vehicles as a sedan other than a good used Gen 4.....(heck, I'd love to own a few of 'em).......unless the Gen 6 is really gonna be a step up.

Gen 4 for L-I-F-E!!!!!!!!!

Hybrid = "bandaid" (Who needs 40mpg and batteries, charging system, etc. when you can get 30mpg on gas?)

Gen 3 = more noise, worse mpg, less room...............but...........nice lookin' for sure! Still Gen 4 wins...............

Because you get better gas mileage and slightly better performance. Not to mention, in the city in a hybrid, the gas motor shuts off so you're creeping around on completely silent battery power.

For the gen3, you forgot to mention better quality.

Ya, actually you're right about the "idling" part of the hybrid.

I was impressed w/ my bro-in-law's Ford Escape Hybrid. We got stuck in traffic once & it was kinda' nice knowing that we weren't wasting any fuel while we stood still for a good half hour in traffic.

I guess if Toyota's gonna do the Camry in hybrid, I hope that they make the transition smooth. The Escape Hybrid switches from electric to motor in a "less than pleasant" fashion.........(clunk!! vroom).

Knowing Toyota, I'm sure they'll do better.

My dream car is still an '01 Lexus ES300 w/ final-year chrome directionals, but considering that it's essentially still just my Camry w/ a V6 in it and the I-4 gets better mpg, I'd be better off gettin' another Gen 4 & having 2 cars for the price of 1..........

Toyota's hybrids are much smoother than the one in Ford's. The transition, from what I hear, in the Highlander/RX400h is impeccable... Oh, can't forget the Prius. Whatever Toyota does to the Camry, you can guaruntee it will be great since it's Toyota's best selling car.

Damn, only 33? JK. That's not bad. My parents have a 00 ce 5 speed and my dad took it to Philly on a trip and averaged 40 mpg. It's amazing what a good driver can muster when in total control
