4th Generation what rpm does....

What rpm does your guys car idle at in drive? Mine seems to idle around 500-700 rpm when warmed up and in drive. Also on another note is it common for the valave train to be a little mechanical sounding. Not a knock or anything just like all the parts are working. Thanks for the help.
Almost forgot it is and I 4, 5sfe, 00 Camry

When just starting up, our 1999 I4 LE idles at 1800-2000 RPM due to the engine being cold. Then, when at normal operating temperature, it runs about 500-800 RPM. So it's normal.

Not sure about our engine, though. It runs great in my opinion, and it sounds like an engine, so I guess having the engine sound like all the parts are working are a good thing .

Its not sounding like anything is wrong! I have listened to every Camry we have had in the shop and they have sounded the same. Just wanted to know if anyone else thought it odd that they make a little more valve noise compared to other manufactures motors. It runs strong and it is quite when reving up andlistening to the motor, Also I like the fact that at 3000 miles when I do and oil change that the oil is still clean as new...

3rd Generation Thread Change; MAX RPM Redline

Same Same - 2K cold, 800 warm in Drive.

Next Question: What is the Max RPM and do these things have a Rev limiter? best I can tell the (if it has a Rev limiter) it don't work as I had it up to 7600 and it sounded like valve float kept it from going higher - What do you know?

Thanks,

Randy

When you say clean as new, do you really mean it looks like it just came out of the bottle or the barrel from which it was pumped?

You know that can be a bad thing right? If the engine oil looks new after 3000 miles, then the oil isn't doing it's job and you should consider switching oils.
