Engine check light

Hey, quick question I have 2002 Camry V6 with the engine check light is ON.
I have pretty good idea of what’s wrong (oxygen sensors). I just don’t have the money to deal with it at this point.
I have to get the car inspected really, really soon.
So I want to snip the wire to make the light go away.
My question, which wire I should cut?
That way I will have 50/50 chance of passing the state inspection .
Thanx
Bob

snipping the wire is not going to make the light go away. depending on how they test your car it will still show up . Iknow in Tennessee on any OBDii car they actually hook up the onboard diagnostics and read all information from the ECU. Snipping the wire is jsut going to through more codes probably.

why not take it to autozone and get it reset by them
cutting wires is not the solution and will be more expensive

i got my friend with the scanner to reset my CEL and after 300 miles, no problems yet.
maybe my gas cap was acting up and I got the p0440 code.

*still keeping my fingers crossed

Why snip wires if you don't know for sure if it is the O2.

What if it was just a simple loose gas cap ?
I guess you'll have an extra ornament on your X-mas tree.

because then the monitors dont run, and if the monitors dont run, then you wont pass inspection.

snipping the wires

also, cats have an 8 year, 80,000 mile warrantee on them. im not sure if a/f sensors do also. but they are very very common to go bad. VERY common.

its policy in some dealers to replace the sensors when the cat is replaced under waranty.

Thank you for looking at my post, and taking time to respond.
My Camry has a quite a history, I bought it from bank auction three years ago.
Great deal until I started going through the car apparently privies owner did 27,000 on factory oil and filter (speechless)
I only got half a quart out, engine completely gunk out. I did every thing under the sun flushes, treatments; best synthetic oil money can buy. Car was running pretty good it would smoke on cold start for few seconds, it was using a lot of oil (quart every couple of hundred miles) I put a another 30,000 mile in two years, I was trying to buy my self some time so the prices come down. Last summer I got engine & transmission with 15,000 miles for $1,500 with installation it was under $2500 but ever since it was done engine light was on. Car had 60,000 miles when it was done, now car has 67,000 and I need to get it inspected. Right after engine swap I took the car to Toyota dealer they would not give me a specific answer which oxygen sensor it was and these suckers are expensive and there is a lot of them.

My assessment of the situation when the car was burning oil the whole exhaust was full of gunk but no engine check lights or any thing I even went through state inspection got sticker for two years. (Inspection in NJ consists them sticking sensor in the exhaust pipe and second sensor in the gas tank, the do not hook anything else) after the engine swap sort on thing got disturb. In my opinion I need headers, catalysts, oxygen sensors roughly a whole exhaust system the existing one is clogged in burn oil.

But I optimistic and I think I have 50/50 that it goes through. But if the light is on they won’t even bother I get rejected.

Thanx a million
Bob

well if you are jsut trying to get the light off to do that and hope it passes then you can try pulling the instrument cluster and pulling the bulb. But like everyone has said cutting the wires is not going to turn the light off. IT is not extremely hard to pull cluster. Have you take in to autozone or any other store like that to let them pull codes on it. That might get you where you need to be as far as which sensor is bad and you can maybe do it yourself.
