Ok im going to pick up my cam tmr and i wuz wondering wut type of sylvania replacement bulbs that i want to put in it. I've looked at some at walmart to advance auto and autozone. So far my top three r the xtravisions, silverstars, and cool blue.
Rite now im leanin towards a bluer look cuz i dont feel like buyin an HID kit rite now. So far i wuz wondering if anyone has ne of these silvanias installed and would give me some general feedback on them. I think i'll prolly get the cool blues. I have looked at Nokya's to luminics and so far some of those bulbs arent DOT/SAE approved, but they give some nice ass colors, like purple to blue. I mean like the actual color. I want some thats legal and will keep me from gettin a ticket. wut do u guys think?
I've been using silverstars for the past 2 years, and I think going to a HID setup may be cheaper by this point. Prolly would've been happier with the HID's too.
I say skip the bulbs until you can afford HID's.

Silverstars are good. But unless you cut wires and disable the Daytime Running Lights, you will be replacing each bulb within 9-10 months. And it's almost like clockwork. One blows...then the other goes within 2 weeks (that cycle has happened twice now so I'd say it's a respectable pattern).
Personally I think the blue tinted lights look like crap. They're lower in terms of brightness and look rice. Lots of beat up old 1990 Civic owners have them to look l33t.
If you can't afford 250-300 for HID, go with Silverstars. Just be prepared to replace them every year. In the end, I think the HID's would have been worth the $$ since the cost of 5 years of Silverstars (6x2= 12 bulbs!!) I could have paid for HID's and had a much better look.
I have Xtravisions. Basically the same thing as Silverstars except there's no blue coating on the glass. Also it's cheaper without any special offers or rebates to claim. A pair is $20 or less at Walmart. They will be brighter than Cool Blues, that's for certain.
ONly real difference between Silverstars and Xtravision is the blue coating on the Silverstars and you pay a lot more for them to get that simulated HID look which for a halogen bulb really doesn't give you any benefit.
If you want some weird color effects, get some Philips Weather Vision or Allweather bulbs. Those are funky if you look at them at an off angle. From head on, it's yellower than stock, but that doesn't mean dim lights. Just means the light is yellow because of coating on the bulb. Look at them from a certain way and it will have a purple haze of flicker. DOT approve and street legal. Good for rainy or foggy conditions.
I assume you're being sarcastic. If not, shoot me too - my next car has HID, I already know I plan on buying sometime around May next year.
But anyways, back to the main topic - I have Silverstar 9006 in my low beams, XtraVision in my 9005 highs/DRL, and Nokia 9006 HyperYellow in my fogs. My Silverstars have lasted about 1.5 years now (I bought my '05 Camry in July last year).
importdriver007, the choice is up to you, but avoid those blue/purple bulbs - they're unsafe and as you said - illegal
show us some pics when you get them!
