whats up fellow Camry owners, this morning I did an Oil change with filter and oil filter change, also put in new spark plugs, run is running wondering it doesn't shake as much at idle.. but um I was wondering I would go with doing a Auto Trans. fuild change.. everything I need.. and so on.. it's on a 94 Inline4 Camry
Im guessing I should do a complete flush and change the filter, althought some trans filters are just a metal screen.. but yea.. help me out here, Im just getting my car all ready for when I leave to go to UTI in March.. just getting the camry ready for the long drive to Houston and back on holidays
well when i bought my cam, my bro had messed the trans a bit, so about 2-3 mo. after i got it from him, the trans dropped. got a new trans, filter, and fluid(of corse) all at the same time, so in my mind id get the filter done by a trained mechanic, ive heard its hard to do yourself...the fluid flush wouldent be too bad tho. get a haynes manuel, or chiltons, they tell how much fluid you need, plus any other thing that you might need to know to fix...its always near by when i work on my cam.
oh and good luck at UTI looks like a cool place, btw, what field are you going into?

Hey 8 eye, have you ever done a tranny flush taking the lines off the radiator? Has anyone on this tread? What are the attached by, spring loaded or what? The guy at auto zone said there are 3 different types of connections to the radiator, I just want to be prepared when I do mine on my 03 camry and 96 corolla with auto trans.

nope, never done a full flush myself...but I don't think that guy knows what he's talking about....tho it may be different on the 4banger rads....
on mine, the tranny cooler is built into the bottom of the rad, and essentially, there is an in, and an out, and that's it, that are held on by those little clamps...pull them off, and there you go....if you want to help drain that way, or to splice in a tranny cooler

I was gonna change my trans fluid too, but i heard that as soon i change it my trans will drop. Supposedly you're not supposed to do fluid flush after 100K or something like that... i have 107K already. Is that true? I tried going to Transmission Shop, they told me they need to run a test ($130) to see if it's ok to change it. Rip off.

it's not dificult to make a change. You just have to drain the fluid, take the oil pan out, remove the gasket, than raplace the old filter whit a new filter, (the filter is fixed whit 3 screws - you can see it on the photo) tjan you can claer the oil pan (there might be some black slime - but look out for magnet) than just screw the oli pan to the transsmision, and fill whit new fluid) (fill the same quantity, tha has drained)

Thanks 8 eye, that was the info I was looking for.
Camry Max, that is BS! I have one done every 30k, the only problem I could see is if you never had one done then get a T Tech flush done at shop, there may be crud after so many miles that either may be sealing a leak or it could block some passage in the tranny. I just had one done at 152k and now I have a minor drip leak, very minor, doesn't even show on the dipstick as a loss of fluid. I am trying auto-rx.com for trannys, it seems to work well on engines and trannys, I will let you know, it takes time to show an effect.
Super Kaioken that is a crime, you have a beautiful car, keep it running well, get a T Tech done or DIY. Consider switching to full synth since you have neglected your Tranny. Amsoil makes a very good synth from what I have read. My Camry has 32k I am going to auto-rx the tranny then do a complete flush with amsoil full synth since I have had a bit of trans shutter, which has improved since the dealer downloaded a new ECU program.
One last point, I just did a drain only on my 96 corolla, I have talked to many people, including Toy Master Mech, and they say since Toys only have a screen not a filter it isn't as necessary to drop the pan and replace the filter. I am just draining the pan because I don't want to risk have pan gasket leaks or stripping threads off bolts. Good luck folks.
I called Toyota today and they said they need to have my transmission checked to see if i really do need it or not even at 53K or they would've said "Yes you do need one"
i'm not having a problem with my transmission but there could be....it could be the whistling noise but anyway. Should i do a FLUSH or a drain and fill? There was a big thread about how flushes are bad and all. Which one?

^ I would just do a drain and fill, unless you tranny fluid is pure black and burnt smelling....otherwise, you just need some new fluid in there- best way is to change it, drive around for a week, change it again, and then do so again until it's almost all red/brown - safest way if you ask me
and it's not like a drain and fill is really a lot of work either

ohhh........thanx Eye8. i'm going to bring it toyota and see what they say about it. the color of the fluid is redish through the white/transparent tub thing. I've never had my fluid checked at 30K. not even sure if my coolant was changed. But i checked today in the manual and it said........
""change automatic transmission fluid only as necessary" only if you are driving under special conditions. it said using any other fluid can damage your transmission besides Toyota brand transmission fluid.
I still gotta find that whirring noise. I don't hear it whenever i rev in neutral. only whenever i'm in drive and moving on the ground 20-30. do you still think it is the belts?
