Toyota dealer service warranty?

Question for those more experienced with Toyota dealers - do they warranty their parts & labor? My g/f's 98 4 cyl Camry has a few problems. It's making a loud noise from the timing belt hitting the cover (at least that's what the dealership said). It's also leaking oil from some seal (haven't got in there to see which one) under the timing belt cover. The timing belt, crankshaft seal, and camshaft seal were all replaced by the previous owner at a different toyota dealership only a little over a year ago. They were gonna charge her $350 to change the timing belt and check on the leak. I don't trust these guys anyways cuz they also tried telling her she needed a new steering rack ($800+) which was leaking. It's oil!!! The power steering fluid is fine. It just doesn't seem right that she should get charged for something that was done not too long ago. I think I might try the timing belt myself after seeing the post with the pics. It doesn't look all that bad.

Alot of times on replacement part warranties it only applies to the original owner. It is not trasferable. DO you ahve receipts from the work being done previously? IF so then I would take it with you and show them the receipts where it was done and maybe they wont aska bout original owners and all taht kind of crap. Another thing is the car being taken back to the dealer that originally did the repairs. IF not then that might be a reason for them wanting to push it a little bit. MOst techs dont like doing warranty work that the manufacturer is paying for in the first 3/36. SO they are not really keen on doing warranty work on replacement parts either. Especially if they are not the ones that put the parts on in the first place.

Thanks for the response Cyorke. We don't have the original receipts. We do have a printout of all the work that was performed at the dealership. I guess I'll give 'em a call and see if they can at least cut her a deal. Won't hurt to try. Otherwise, I'll just do it myself (or try). Might be a good Christmas present.
