Bad wheel bearing?

Between like 47-53 mph I'm hearing a weird "whump" noise coming from the left front. It occurs at all times, and since I just put snow tires on the front I know it wasn't a flatspotted tire or other tire issue. This noise is coming from the left front, and me and the ol'man (a Toyota guru in his own right) are pretty sure it's the wheel bearing. The car has 107000 miles on it, and about 6500 of those miles came in the last six months. In fact, this noise has been around for like the last 2 1/2 mos. Before that the car had been very lightly used for several years. Is there anything else I ought to check before buying a new bearing? Thanks.

Check your CV joints.
I replaced my whole drivers side axle at the end of April 02, the reman axle outer CV busted 3 weeks ago.
It was making wierd sounds (I thought it was just my front suspension spring rotating when I turned), but now I know it was the CV joint clicking on its way to an untimely death.

Just a suggestion

Jack up that corner of the car and see if you can move the wheel around. If it moves around in all directions you most likely have a bad wheel bearing.

The bearing is pressed in so your probably just better off replacing the entire spindle and hub assembly with a used one.

I had to replace mine awhile ago.
