Wheel won't come off!!

Okay I know, this is a CAMRY forum, but its more active too...
Can't get the front driver wheel off my '91 Corolla I got on ebay. I'm guessing either rust, or wrong size hold in the center was 'snugged' on even though it was the wrong size. Any ideas for a non-special tool required method of getting it off?? Besides driving around the block with no lugnuts on please...

thanks.

Whack it with a rubber mallet
PB blaster
Try lowering the jack so the car rests on the wheel but still supported by the jack somewhat

like everyone else said jack it up make sure all the lugs are off and kick the crap out of it. Kicking on the top of the tire seems to be easiest so you can youse the heel of you foot. If you kick it on the bottom then you are using the ball of your foot moreso and it can hurt more. Or you can take a heavy rubber mallet and beat the hell out of it. jsut be careful not to go overboard because you can bend the rim even with a rubber mallet.

If you can safely get under the car (hopefully supported by jackstands) hit the back side of the wheel (not the tire) with a rubber mallet. You can also try some Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, etc. where the wheel attaches to the center hub. This is a common occurance, especially if you have alloy wheels. The aluminum alloy sets up some kind of a galvanizing reaction with the steel of the hub. I heard one engineer refer to this as "dissimiliar metals producing a galvanizing action". Hit the backside of the wheel with the rubber mallet all around the wheel. It will eventually break loose.

If you don't have the car supported by jackstands, then don't try this. You could try just kicking the wheel as someone suggested. If you are going to do this, have a friend stand on the opposite side of the car with his/her weight against that opposite side. This will help prevent the car from falling off the jack and allow all the force created to go to the stuck wheel.

Good luck.

Mike

Car is on jackstands and I just got it off. Just needed a bigger hammer is all I guess. Or maybe the WD-40 soakind into the rust a little. Now I just need to buy a 30mm socket and a puller to get the axle shafts out and I'm set. Till the next stumbling block that is...

thanks a lot.

on one end of my lug wrench It has a flat end..... I have that problem sometimes too, i just take the flat end and stick it through the rim and gently pry it off.

30mm socket and a long bar, their really tight, then the axle should tap out of the hub, soak it first

now wire brush the rust off all the mating surfaces and throw some anti-seize on them so it doesn't happen again..
