Canada ESSO Engine Oil good for the Camry ?

I think ESSO is EXXON in the USA ? I like to change my oil to this ESSO Ultra brand 5w30 ILSAC GF 1,2,3,4 API SL approved engine oil, but I dont know if anyone has used it and if its good on my Camry.
Changed 5,000km or 3000 miles ago. Its winter and we're hitting -5 C or +20 F and I like better protection other than the antifreeze.

Aslong as it meets the requirements that Toyota has set then you should be fine.

all oil is basically the same, unless you go synthetic or blend

You might want to go to a synthetic if lots of cold starts are likely I have used it every winter since 1999 on a 97 LE & very limited oil burning puff on start ups at 183,000km in area with -40 weather steady in January. GM does winter testing here

Exxon used to be Esso in the US. After exhaustive research, "Exxon" was chosen because nowhere in the world in any language or obscure dialect did it mean something offensive. Apparently Esso is still used in Canada. I've used Exxon oil at least a couple of times in the 14 years we've had the Camry as well as having used it in our other vehicles. You'll be fine.

As long as it's the proper weight and meets the GF-4 specification it will work fine.

Here's another question. If you only put synthetic oil in the winter and switch to a conventional oil in the spring and it's all say 5w30 is this bad for the engine?

If you get the chance, try to locate some ESSO XD-3 Synthetic in either a 0w30 or 0w40 grade.

It's really good stuff, real synthetic PAO basestock and has gotten good reviews almost everywhere.

I'm currently running it in my car and have noticed that has a noticeably smoother idle and starts easier in cold weather.

It won't hurt anything.

0W40 is too thick. Use 0W30 instead.

You will actually lose some power and fuel mileage with the 0W40. Who knows, the extra thickness may even cause some lubrication problems.
