4th Generation Alternator power loss?

Is it possible to lose power and acceleration due to a bad alternator and/or starter? A friend of mine told me that was the case and it just doesnt make any sense.
On another note, What lexus steering wheel and shift knob will fit my gen 4? I want a wheel with volume and stereo controls if possible.

well.. technically no.. because the battery would keep the car going just the same.. but as the alternator and battery combined would lose power... then yes eventually it could lose significant power.. because it would barely be running.. and then at some point it wouldnt run at all.. but that would mean your alternator was crap and wont charge anymore.. as for the other things.. not sure at all about lexus conversions

I solved my power loss problem by doing grounding.

Yes, it is possible. At least with a bad alternator. Eventually the battery will get so weak from not being charged, that there will be not enough juice left in the battery to properly fire the spark plugs. Fisrt the car will begin to stumble. Eventually it will just quit running. The starter, however, will have no effect on drivability once the car is actually running. It is only used to start the car. Once it is started, the starter is out of the loop.

Sorry I can't offer much help with the steering wheel. I would think that the radio in the car would have to be able to receive the signals from the controls in the steering wheel. Most radios do not have this ability. This is just my educated guess.

ill have to look into that grounding kit. I think it might be a bad seal somewhere too. I really really need to get rid of my sri. It really destroyed my acceleration. It sounds great and is a lot smoother shifting but i think ive lost power.

There are pros and cons to SRI. Look at this dyno chart:
