What happens if I cut my stock springs?

This may seem like a noob question, well it is.

BUT, I might get my rims tomorrow, and I'm already replacing the shocks this week. I want to put my rims on, but I don't want to do that without lowering the car. What happens if I replace the shocks and cut a few coils off the stock springs. I will probably be riding the car like this for about two weeks.

^^ DANGEROUS to not only you but everyone else on the road.

It is illegal to have cut springs here, dunno if it is the same over there. That mean insurance will be *VOID* if you have an accident

Do it PROPERLY or dont do it at all.

not worth it, you decrease the spring rate and bottom out. buy the real stuff. for 200 bucks you can get springs that are designed for lowered applications. why do the job twice and ruin a good car.

i say don't cut the spring and just put on the rim for now. then 2 weeks later lower your car it won't kill you if you wait a bit longer

you have waited this long why not wait a little bit longer and do the job right all at once. or put on the rims with the stock suspension.
come to think of it shit i have parts that have been waiting to go on for like a year and a half now......

I say if you are going to only drive it this way for a couple of weeks jsut wait to do the new struts and springs at the same time. If you are paying to have it done it will save you some money. If you are doing it yourself it will save you some time.

As for cutting springs, I wouldnt do it either. Just like everyone has mentioned above, the safety, handling and very bad ride are not worth it. ALso if you cut the springs and then decide you want to go back to factory you will have to buy new springs at that time. There you go spending even more money that you could have used towards something else you really wanted on the car.

Wny Not

Why not just either wait till you get your springs, then put struts and springs on at same time. If you put on your rims before or after this it would still look better than you bouncing along on cut springs. Jon.

ive heard of people cutting stock springs on another forum i hop onto, but it seems difficult to control what the resulting height will be. aside from altering the spring rate, if you cut off a little too much, you are SOL. there isnt an "undo" button.
