i got a N1 on a my camry and that sound almost like a civic but w/ a stronger and deeper tone.. LOUD w/o the silencer .. of course i got 2-1/4" custom cat.. don't know about v6 got I4
From the hypothesis that I made back in my gen 3 Camry days (I had a 4cyl), the 2.2L 4cyl exhaust would sound better than the 3.0L V6 exhaust because if you look at the displacement per cylinder, the 4cyl is higher... that can be extrapolated to the 5.0L V8 from Ford that sounds like a monster...
This analysis is if you compare the same kind of exhaust system on all those cars. Of course you can customize your sound by the type of muffler you get.

did you notice any power gains with the N1 and the catback ? or was it just more noise ?

On a Camry (esp. i4), there won't be any noticable power gains for muffler/catback/intake upgrades. It will be a disappointment if you look for real hp gains.
To answer your next question, if you're looking into real hp gain, consider putting large sum of money on custom parts: ie. P&P job, headers, cams, y-pipe(if you have a v6).
IMO the amount of $ you put in on bolt-on performance parts (for Camry) won't reflect on the perfomance you put down at the wheels.
My catback didn't do much for me except give me a headache and a big fat bill.
But seriously, I dyno'd at 143hp for my V6 (with 2.5" catback and intake), which was still like 6 hp lower than Elegant's cam (stock back then). My car is still a lot older, but it's running well.

yeah but v6s' have 3 chambers going per stroke, too a I4's two.... right??
i think the v6's have more displacment per stroke, and would sound deeper

how bout pulleys, is one for the I4 ? they must free up some HP ???
can you advance timing on the I4 ? that usually helps a bit

The pulley on the I4, from personal experience on my old car is not all too impressive. It does free up some top end HP but the peak remains almost unchanged. The curve is smoothed out a bit. Engine revs a bit faster but it is not really noticeable under load. In Neutral is where you notice it (not like it matters there).
Now as far as timing, you can change the base timing, but timing is automatically adjusted by the ECU to advance or retard depending on fuel, etc.

hey sr20infinity u should come to the vancouver meets sometime.. i got an hks hyper ( basically same as apexi N1) it sounds nice.. but at first when i had a red hot resonator it sounded like crap and too too loud.. but now im good low tone at low revs.. nice deep throaty sound at higher (4k and up) rpms
as for power i cant tell ya really cos i did my headers, exhaust, cat and cat back pipe all at the same time so the gain might've been big or small not so sure but when i put the whole thing together i get noticeable top end performance but a lot of low end torque loss due to the bigger 2.5" pipes im using from the cat to the muffler... although after i changed my resonator to a better quieter one.. i regained some of my low end torque back and also lost a bit of topend power which i dont go to anyways cos of the damn speedlimits everywhere!!!
so good luck and happy hunting... there's a few v6's that show up sometimes to the meets... but who knows ... we dont really have a club or anything goin just a bunch of guys takin some nice pics or our ride... have fun man...

did you pass aircare with all your exhaust mods ? with a header (which did you get ?) will it effect aircare ? Ill come out to the meets...when i get a camry, hey your also on the IS Impression forums, is there any other camrys on that ? you should start a Vancouver camry club......
i tried but not enough ppl show up so i just hang with the ISimpression peeps if u want u can join us on our xmas party dinner / pic meet... u're more than welcome even if u dont got a camry there's a TL type S that comes along and me and probably a few other camrys might show up
as for aircare one i got a california car so i got emissions up until they change it i swear it will never ever fail aircare.. .heheh also doing it properly .. like where the 02 sensors are mounted on the exhaust should be pretty much like stock or else it wouldnt work... and u get a bad 02 reading and then u're screwed...
let me know if u got anyother q's or u can post here or in isimpression... im more in ISI cos its vancouver and i know most of the peeps there personally already... c ya round...

so if you have a Cal car you dont have to go through aircare ? im just concerned with the placement of the O2 sensor on the header cause if it doesnt get hot enough for aircare then the reading will be all messed up and youll fail, thats how most cars up here fail wid a header
i still have 2 go to aircare every 2 years but its just that i have a guaranteed fast.. impossible to fail.. maybe if we meet up sometime i can show u where the o2 sensor ismounted.. as for the header it is predrilled so i can only mount in one spot but the auxiliary i mounted after the cat.. so it would sense excess and the computer can compensate rather than b4 the cat where the computer wont know if its goin toolean or rich... also the presence of an ignition box greatly helps ur car burn gas cleaner.. btw i dont use anythig but chevron octane 94 gas..
