Camry Exhaust Piping

I've been contemplating on getting an aftermarket exhaust on my Gen. 3 Camry (I-4). But I am unsure how big the piping should be. Should it be 2 1/4 or 2 1/2? Would 2 1/2 be too big? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Is it ok to have the custom cat-back in 2.25 in piping without the cat? Just straight piping from the headers to the muffler.

As you can see, 2 1/2" piping is too big, especially for a small engine such as yours. I'd probably stick with 2" piping, but its really up to you. Do what you want to do.

As for removing the cat, no, it is not OK to remove it. There are oxygen sensors before and after the cat and removing it will seriously mess up your air/fuel mixture. Not to mention the hefty fine you will be slapped with if someone ever finds out you're running without a cat.

The comment about the after cat o2 sensors isnt true on the i4 if it is gen 3 1/2 there is a o2 on the header and after the first collecter on the header. if it is just gen 3 there is only one o2 and thats after the header collecter. on the v6 there is an after cat o2 thats it so if you wanted to you can remove the cat. it will just stink like hell and dep. on what diameter you could lose b/p and that can sometimes be fatal to an engine not to mention on the i4 detrimental to hp numbers and we all know we need all the help we can get.

2.25 is what I'd go with.

Go with 2.25" all the way through... that's the one that I have that's up for sale (shameless plug) from Brullen Exhaust. Its 2.25" mandrel bent all the way to the custom Brullen muffler and then I have a Brullen 3" chrome eliptical tip, a-la-Porsche! I have dyno results of it too... gains all the way from low to top end.

i have a question for catback systems. is there a brand that makes a full catback system that not noisy like all the others(ex: apexi, GReddy) how is brosal, anybody have it? if not, is there a way to make your catback quiet, like style of a porsche or beemer?

Bosal is not a quiet muffler at all. You can control the sound by adding more resonators or getting a more restrictive muffler... however there's a balance between how much sound control you do to how much power you make form the mods (they work inversely with each other). So you have to decide where your priorities are.

Well thanks for the great info. I've been considering the Bosal muffler but it is quite expensive. And it doesn't have that look i'm going for. I really want to put a tanabe racing medallion or my cousin might sell me his Blitz NurSpec. If i do get one of these mufflers, should i remove the cat? I read WickedWerx's comment and it was kinda confusing to me. :-p. But i have a 1995 Camry I-4, I don't know if its Gen. 3 or Gen 3 1/2?

You're a gen 3.5 but it is still the 5S-FE with the same exhaust specs... I can sell you my custom 5S-FE Brullen catback for pretty cheap. E-mail or PM me if you'd like.
