2nd Gen questions

Ok, I've done my best to read almost all of the relivant threads about the Raptor V supercharger for the 3SFE as well as all other 2nd generation threads. After writing to that company they informed me that they have stopped production and would not resume unless there was more interest. What are some other reasonable engine upgrades for my 3SFE? Thanks.

How much do you want to spend? You can do a cone filter with adapter plate, exhaust, header (hard to find), port and polish, 3-angle valve job... etc... you can go on from there, but its a challenging engine to modify. Also, what is your goal?

It hard to say how much money I'd like to spend. I attempted the adapter and cone filter last year and it didnt fit. I'd just like to explore all my options before I upgrade my engine. Thanks. P.S. I have been to www.geocities.com/hotwheelharmer before, I actually started talking to him recently after I saw his sway bar on ebay. Thanks.

Will a 3sge or 3sgte bolt into my 91 auto or 5spd? What additional stuff would be required?

Well, start with the basics then... The real basic thing is good maintainence, especially on a 12-14 year old car. There aren't any easy bolt-on modifications that will get you much power. The intake will mainly just make your car sound good. Exhaust will only get you a few horsepower, and same with the header (if you can find it). I don't know where to get the cone filter adapter or header because I got both of them used (for cheap!). If you want to do a full rebuild and spend a fair amount of money, you can make some power out of the engine. Yes, the 3s-ge and 3s-gte engines will probably bolt up to your tranny (maybe not the 3s-gte) but your current tranny, especially if its an auto, won't like the extra power very much... Also, its not quite as simple as 'bolting it up' - there is a lot of work that goes into an engine swap. Start small and take it slow. And don't just mod this car because you have it - make sure its a car you really want to keep so that the mods you do will be worthwile in the long run.

Maintainence has always been important to me so that is not a factor in my case. My engine was rebuilt about 1 year ago, it is actually a Jasper rebuild. I will try another intake filter. As far as the header... I'd be looking for a Celica header off of any 3S-XX right? I do not want to put a load muffler on the car because it does not have the balls to back it. Have you heard anything about the ELprototypes cams or thier CAI? I realize motor swaps are not small and always easy. I've taken part in a few myself, but if I was going to swap motors, it would be better to do it sooner than later. I have 2 91 Camrys. The 2nd one has the 5spd and needs an engine rebuild. It has a horrible knock which I hoping will be fixed with new main bearings. The transmission also has a problem in 5th gear, it whines under power and pops out. Bad synchros maybe, any ideas? It is nice to meet some other guys with the 2nd gen camrys... Now a feel a bit less light the loner. Thanks again.

I'm glad to hear you keep up on your maintainence. You should probably start modding the 5-speed camry - in the end you will probably want the 5-speed... The tranny from the Celica gts (with the 3s-ge engine) around our year camry will bolt right in place of the 3s-fe tranny with only very minor modifications. It will hold a lot more power and has some aftermarket support with nice clutches and an LSD (I believe). It also has shorter gearing for better accelleration. That's what I'm going to do when my tranny finally dies (the synchros are getting old... I rev match now just to be nice to it). I'm having a CAI made by EL Prototypes right now as part of a groupbuy with 9 other guys. I will report back when I get it... It'll probably be two weeks. The celica header you want is for the 3s-fe celica. I think you can find it on www.nopi.com, but I would look elsewhere also (I hear bad things about nopi). Also, the Pacesetter header doesn't fit well - the bolt holes don't line up. Try to get the Japspeed header instead, even though its harder to find. Where are you located? Feel free to email me if you have anymore questions.
