2000 --V6-- STICKSHIFT CAMRY - 24.6 Miles Per Gallon
1996 --I4-- STICKSHIFT CAMRY - 25.2 Miles Per Gallon <------ concerned... Almost like my V6 above??
What am I missing here?
Everything was exact same. Roads, Traffic, Destinations, Weather conditions, Exact/Same Tire Pressure on both cars, same 10W30 oil that I put in myself, Toyota filter on both cars.
I think I am testing both cars again for new numbers. Maybe I messed up somewhere.
I don't know IF I SHOULD BE HAPPY FOR MY V6 OR SAD FOR MY I4.
23-25 is what I get for my I4 auto. It's rated for 21 city 28 hwy or something close to that, so I don't see what the problem is (and having a manual doesn't necessarily mean you get better mileage). It all depends on your foot and how you press that gas pedal. If you're accelerating at the same rate in the V6 as the I4, you should expect similar gas mileage.

the only way for a manual to get great gas milage is to shift early, like 2k-3krpm and revving dosent help either.

If I should not be surprised at my V6 and I4 giving me the same mileage both EXACT same city driving as mentioned above, I guess there is no problem then !!
I should have just bought a V6 again for 3rd generation if the difference was so little.
My 01 corolla's 1.8 litre gave me 38mpg. I am definitely switching to a Corolla for mileage purposes in a few years.
AND YES,.... I did test both cars at same route (all city) back and forth to work/groceries.
I will test again.............
If you ahve only run one tank of gas through them that may be your problem. I normlaly will run two or three tanks through to get an average instead of jsut one tank. According to www.fueleconomy.gov you are not very far off from the averages they claim.

V6 Man I4 Manual
Well it will not let me seperate it so it is easy to read. basically the numbers on the left are for the V6 and the numbers on teh right are for the I4.

Not bad mileage for all city driving. The reason both cars are close is because the 4 cyl has to work harder to get the car up to speed. If you checked them both on highway mileage I bet you would see a bigger diffence between the two cars.

also keep in mind for comparison sake, temperature does play a role with gas mileage. i was getting 30mpg 30%city70%highway driving and 36mpg 100% highway driving during the summer, and now im getting 25/26mpg 30%city70%highway driving.
temperature yes, but if you're accelerating at relatively the same rate, I'd say it has more to do with the change in the gas that the companies make during the switch to the colder season.

1) Because it is colder now and gasoline is different.
2) Because city driving is same for most cars because 4 cylinder has to work harder than a V6 and difference will be on higher speeds.
3) Use multiple gas tank readings instead of just one.
MERRY CHRISTMAS all.... I know, the car freak I am, I will have nothing on my mind and I will enjoy the holidays to my fullest........................................... .......... NOT !
better start drining now so you can get it over with before Christmas. That way you dont have to worry about it over the holidays. Go fill up now and drive through at least 2 or 3 tanks of gas before Saturday so you can stop thinking about it.

Cyorke.... I don't care if my 96 Camry gets the MPG award but you definitely get the Funny Man award of the day....
I agree with you that something sounds wrong with the numbers. The V6 should be getting worse mileage than what you have shown for city driving. Are you sure that you calculated it correctly?
I would expect the V6 to be down around 20 mpg for city in winter weather. The I-4 sounds about right.
Don't be disappointed. With 90% city driving, and with most trips under 3 miles, our Camry is only getting 14-18 miles per gallon. I would love to get 25.2 miles per gallon
