left driveshaft won't budge, any tricks?

94 Camry LE 5FSE Auto

I was lucky and the passenger's side driveshaft came right out after removing the support bolt. But the driver's side driveshaft won't budge. The Haynes manual says to pry on it. Well I pried on it for two hours tonight and I don't think it moved the slightest bit. I'm wondering if anyone knows any tricks to it?

there is a tool that you can put in from the other side and hit the axle out, it kinda looks like a tuning fork, before i bought mine i used an extension ground flat to go past the pin

no tricks... it should pop out. ive removed a few myself, and they always pop right out, or with some convincing from the pry bar. all that holds it in really, is a small snap ring on the tip of the axle. that should come out easily with pressure on the axle.

try a search, this has been asked in the last month, as well as threads before it.

There are some that are PTIA to take out.

Easiest way is two sets of hands and two pry bars
One to pry on the axle againts the trans.
One to chisel it out with the other bar with a hammer.

Works every time.

Unfortunately I don't have anyone else to help. I'm just doing this at home in my garage on jack stands too. The passenger side popped easy, but the driver's side seems really stuck. Pry bar and hammer didn't seem to make any progress though I guess I will keep trying.

I did actually search the forum and read all 4 pages of posts relating to driveshafts before posting mine. Not a single one had a solution for the driver's side being stuck although there were a couple good ones for the passenger side support bearing being frozen, which was not an issue for me thank god...

Is there any particular angle of the driveshaft that lets the snap ring come out easier? I read somewhere that when putting it back in to have the opening in the snap ring facing straight down would make the re-install easier.

I guess it's just brute force and persistance at this point. Merry Christmas everyone.

I wouldnt pry it either, it will just cause a lot of dents on the diff housing. Angle a crowbar from below and brace it against the driveshaft thing-a-ma-jig (solid black part), start wacking it out with a large hammer. At the same time, have an assistant tug on the driveshaft. It will come off. Caution though on the left side diff seal, its very easy to damage if the driveshaft circlip catches on it and takes out the spring on the seal. It may be a good idea to buy a spare seal just in case. Taking out and putting in a new seal is another long story.

By now i'm sure the problems been resolved somehow, but on other posts they have mentioned another solution. And that is to use a slide puller (also called slide hammer) to get the stuck CV driveaxle out.

You will no doubt have to fabricate something to hold the inside CV joint like chain or something. And then make some other fastener to hold this onto the slide puller. And then use the slide puller to beat it out.
