Wikipedia and the Camry engines

Searchn around, and found some stuff quite interesting at Wikipedia.

Firstly, for anyone interested in what the new GR series 3.5L V6 is all about:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GR_engine

Note that the GR series engines will be going back to the Cast Iron/Alloy Head combo as used in the VZ series... (must tell you something eh?!!!)

And secondly this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_VZ_engine

Which in particular, i found interesting these quotes:

Quote:
the 2vz-fe is the easiest of the Toyota v6's to turbocharge, owing from the rear bank's exhaust manifold pipe crossing over to the front bank. Making normally complex turbocharger mounting & piping a simple case of mounting the turbo onto the front bank.
Whats the deal?? They talk about that as if it's been done before

Quote:
The low angle DOHC cylinder heads were designed & mostly built by Yamaha, or by Toyota under license
I didn't know Toyota V6 heads where designed by Yamaha. I knew that the 3SGE ones were...

Quote:
In an embarrassing move, Toyota inadvertently created an engine competing with the more performance oriented 7m-ge, 1jz-ge & 2jz-ge's installed in sportier, more luxurious cars of the time. Because of this, both stock ignition timing, and fuel tuning were set more conservatively than normal(even for Toyota!) capping power output.
So how much power STOCK does a 3VZ put out with tuning? This says to me, that if you pop on an aftermarket ECU and tune it, your going to get some good numbers out of a stock VZ engine!

Anyways...an interesting read.
