yup, that's basically the way- lots of different sand paper, then compound

make a search- you can find a step by step diy along with pictures

I am going to do that for my old ones but i am also trying to find a composites shop that will custom make me clear plastic lenses. I figure if i take the crappy ones off and let them make a mold of it, they can just form me some new ones out of some sort of injection molded clear.

The texture on the glass to direct the light being reflected by the parabolic reflector on the back of the lamp...

Free form head lamps do not have the texture because the reflector was already designed to direct the light.

Yeah your light output's gonna decrease if you clear your lens. It'll start going everywhere except where it needs to be: the ground. Get the crystal clear ones off ebay if you want the clear look.

Yeah, don't clear your composite lenses. If you do, you'll just end up ruining a perfectly good set of headlights.
Or, if you really want to work, do what darkmastyr did and retrofit projectors into the housing. DarkMastyr, did you buy the crystal ones off ebay and then retrofit the projectors in there or did you clear your old ones. Looks like the crystal ones, especially with the sidemarkers, but I can't tell. Awesome of course.

The side markers are crystal clears, but the main headlamp is now a hybrid. The housing itself is actually the smooth parabolic finish of the old headlamps, but the lens is off a crystal clear headlamp. I decided that since the housing itself was going to be useless that a smooth look would be better than the choppy look found in the crystal clear housing.
