To return or not to return.

Well I am well into my tubo project and I have come across my final big obstacle. My fuel system is an OBD2 returnless fuel system with an in tank regulator. I will only be running 5 psi but I would like to build in some safety. If I convert to a return system I will need to fabricate many little parts and make everything work as it should. In theory this will make tuning easier but I am worried that it will create more trouble than it will solve. The OBD2 might freak out or the fuel pressure might be hard to get steady. Price really isnt the issue its the amount of trouble to be saved either way. Either way I will be running a Walbro 255lph pump. Let me know what you guys think.

is the FPR you plan on using a returnless one as well?
if it is then stay returnless, otherwise a little fabrication goes a long way

return

on my 2000 v6 camry i have th in tank regualtor blocked off, i tapped the ends of the fuel rails and ran a return line back to the tank. I use a aeromotive regulator to adjust fuel pressure.

Did you simply crimp the end of the regulator output shut and now it just passes fuel straight thru? I want to do aeromotive fuel regulator 1:1 rising rate. Did this mod screw up the computer at all? What kind of line did you use for the return? Just braided stainless steel line?

I think if the FPR has a return line, that is how it regulates the pressure, by sending the excess back to the tank

return setup

Yeah the in tank regulator is removed and blocked off completely. I ran a -4 line back to the tank. The Ecu is fine , i actually lowered my base fuel pressure down to 35psi. I am running 400cc injectors on the stock v6 ecu using an S-AFC. I couldnt keep a good idle with the safc trimming 50%. LOwering the base pressure solved my problem. I also run a aeromotive 1:1 regulator.

So I should just remove the stock reg completely and run a line from the walbro pump straight to the stock fuel line and then have a -4 line from the aeromotive regulator to the tank and did you just make a fitting next to the stock fuel line to dump the returned fuel back into the tank? seems rather simple...

Nah I think I will just custom fab it up myself then. I absolutely love one off custom stuff. I will have the fuel system, stainless downpipe and full stainless exhaust, aluminum tig welded intercooler piping, and stainless tig welded turbo charge pipe all custom one off pieces. I just like having the only custom pieces like that. I will post up updates soon!
