OK so here the deal I have a goal to break 200hp in my gen 2. Now i now its going to be hard without turbo but i would rather not get into that. So im starting off by rebuilding my motor and I want to use high comp. pistons so i dont have to turbo, If im not turboing i would also use a 5fse crank. Now if i have it bored .35 overbore i can fit a prelude piston in or i could probably use some other pistons. Any ways how hard/expensive would it be to find rods, would I have to have them custom done and if so how much$$$$$.
There's no way that you are going to get more than 200hp from a 3SFE. And if you're stuck up on the idea of doing that, it will be much easier and possibly cheaper to do an engine swap to a 3sge (~180hp) or a 3sgte and a e153 transmission (~300hp with minor bolt ons). Swapping the engine is pretty straightforward mechanically, but it is quite challenging figuring out the wiring, though it has been done before.
Anyways, good luck with whatever you choose to do.

200hp from an inline is definitely posisble. Talk to CrawlingEye as he should be in the 200whp mark NA on his 5SFE build late this year. You are going to need extensive headwork, O/S valves, new valve springs, stronger reatiners, etc. Nice overbore with high comp pistons, with some beefy rods, multilayer headgasket, clutch, fw, headers, high flow fuel pump, larger injectors, fpr, and a few other bolt-ons. Picggybacks like an safc might be enough or an e-manage. But you might have to go standalone, although i think that would be a last resort.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but thats not what I meant. Sure you can get 200 hp from an inline 4, hell, the 3sgte can push over 400 if it is really messed around with. Now with the 3sfe, it is gonna be very difficult to nearly double the horsepower without forced induction, all considering that this is an economy engine, so it wasn't designed to handle power like the performance engines.
As for the beams engine, if you're gonna put forth a serious effort to gain hp, go all out and get a 3sgte

I am also going N/A myself...I already got my intake and exhaust manifold stage 3 ported/polished and TB bored...In a couple months im getting my whole cylinder head done, like a 3 angle valve job, new valve stem seals witht the bowls worked, valves will be unshrouded where applicable, chambers polished and intake/exhaust portes would be opened to gasket size...I am not hoping to get a dramatic result but hoping to achieve atleast 30 more hp...If im not satisfied with the results ill consider this prep work to go TURBO! lol...But anyways, my main goal right now is to see how much I would get out of the 3sfe going N/A. BTW...is anyone selling a wideband o2 sensor which you guys might have lying around?
