I own a 92 Camry 5sfe. I am thinking about switching to NGK wires. I currently have Bosch Magcore wires on there. Also, I think I might have strained my tranny while driving on a snowcovered driveway. It makes a little humming sound between 20-40. I had this trannsmission technician take a ride with me and he said it is something loose like a heat shield. Any thoughts or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
ngk wires are good. mind as well swtich the plugs to ngk while you're at it.

I got Denso Iridium plugs in there, they are good. So, are the NGKs better than Bosch? If the plugs have a little oil is it a valve cover gasket problem?
Also, any ideas on the noise I am hearing. Its a minor noise, so its no big deal probably, but anything I should be concerned about?
sorry, no input on noise. if you're running denso already, its fine. denso and ngk are your best choices for plus and wires since they are oem equipment. stay away from bosch things.

Yeah, I think its a really minor thing that can always be checked out. Thanks a lot for your input. By the way how many miles does your Camry have? I am about to turn 201,000. Any ideas on a cold air intake/valve cover gasket? Those are two other areas I am interested in.
oh wow, that's a lot of miles. i'm at a mere 102k. in terms of a cold air intake, you have to custom-make it as there are no actual ones made specific for the 5s-fe. there's a DIY in the camry faq at the top that'll show you howto fabricate one (pretty simple job). i went for a short-ram intake and its perfectly fine by me.
in terms of the valve cover gasket, if it has not been replaced, it may be a good time to do so. i really see no point in doing it though unless its leaking oil or causing problems.
good luck

Yeah weapon R makes one apparently. But, I know an engine shop in town that can actually modify things, so I am waiting to hear what he says. But, I definitely agree with you on the intakes. The K&N air filter I run is great!
I was looking around some another web site and it looks like Gen3 California cars use different wires than non-California cars. They have different part numbers from NGK.
What did you do to your transmission? Did it over heat? Did you spin tires like crazy?
