3rd Generation What the heck is goin on?

Hey everyone

Im an Australian and Ive got a Holden Apollo, which is a Gen III Camry built by Holden for the local market, when Toyota built Holdens VN-VR series Commodores as Lexcens.

Im just wondering does anyone have any info on the Apollo at all besides this? It is so hard to find exactly which Camry the Apollo was built on,

Ive heard that the Australian Camry's were extremely different to the rest of the worlds anyway, 77% local parts and components to cope with the Australian conditions? By the way, the Toyota Camry was sold alongside the Apollo, so it wasnt a case of Holden taking the Camry design to keep monopoly but as a way to replace the outgoing Camira.

And thats about all I know. Besides that, my Apollo is an SLX model, 2.2 litre 4 cylinder with 5 speed spring assisted manual.

terrastrife has a Holden Apollo also. He may be able to answer your questions better than anyone else as far as an Apollo is concerned.

You are right, Gen 2. Gen 3's are called Camry Conquest or Interceptors, or something.

Anyway, sounds like the engine is a JDM 3SFE if it'sa 2.2L

Holden sold rebadged Camrys as the Holden Apollo.
they did this for both Gen2 and Gen3 Camrys

both were based on their Toyota counterparts, mechanically they are EXACTLY the same.
the only difference in Holden badging and a few cosmetic differences...

for your case 'MrApollo', your car is practically exactly the same as a Gen3 Camry (Aus Spec)

and yes, it is true, the Australian Camrys are slightly different to the rest of the world.
they are built in Melbourne, so they use locally sourced parts.

The Apollo was the Gen 3.5 (95-96 design) US Camry equivilent I believe. Look att he front headlights on it.

This is a pic of my '96 Camry front end. You should have the same headlights and grill, which the Aus Camry had the 92-95 camry style headlights and grill.
