Instrument panel light?

Hey, I'm new to the car world so please help me out. The light on the i guess "instrument panel" doesnt come on. Its not the one with the like MPH reading and stuff, i'm talking about the one where the Air condition switch and stuff is, the light there doesnt turn on at night(when i turn on my lights on the outside its suppose to light those parts up), do you guys have any idea what is wrong with it. If you know what i'm talking about please give me the correct term to use for it. thank you.

what year is your car? My car has the same problem. Some sort of loose connection. But if you give it a gentle tap, the lights should come on. This is provided if you have your driving lights on.

Your bulb is probably dead or loose (if not all that's left is a faulty bulb socket or wiring, but I seriously doubt either of those). Your looking at $100 from a dealer/shop. Find a local mechanic (gas station mechanic) to fix it for ya, easy, shouldn't be more than $20-30 (1/2hr labor). Or pick up the Haynes manual for your car, it will show you how to take the dash apart and change the bulb.

Edit: That's the climate control panel your talking about. The instrument panel is the one iwth the gauges and whatnot. If you have the manual (knob) climate control it's usually much easier to change the bulbs.
