Hello TN, I just have a question hoping for some answers. I have a 1994 V6 LE with premium sound. Under the passengers seat there appears to be an amp, however, I have never actually taken a close look. My question is basically if I replace my stock 6x9's (15W) with my new Alpine Type-S speakers (50W RMS, 250 peak), will there be enough power from the stock CD deck to make a nice sound increase? Is it worth installing them or should I take them back to Best Buy and get my $140 back? Does anyone know the power rating on the premium sound CD deck? Thanks for any help.
itll sound better in that it wont be distorted at higher levels but the quality wont increas a whole lot until you replace the stock deck with a nice aftermarket one.
I would install the new alpine 6x9's. I mean it's gonna sound better than your old stock 15W's, maybe a bit more bass too. So test it, and when you'll be tired of your hold HU, just buy a new one.
thats a crap load for 6x9's.. i would take them back because they were so much, because i hat e best buy and all of its expensive shit.. but other than that.. you will see a difference in loudness but it wont to too effective.. could do either, but they will be a little better
Difference? when i exhanged my 6x9 stock 15w with a pair of
high quality JBL 6x9 there was a big difference, but i dont
run the stock stereo. I think the stock stereo put out 4x15w peak
or something like that, i threw mine in the garbage. you have to
exchange the stock stereo if you realy want an improvment with new speakers,
the stock stereo just dont have the power or quality to make full use of
quality speakers
i have the same alpine type s 6x9s in the back and 6x5 in the front they sound great if you have a nice deck you dont have to waste $$$ on an amp just get a nice alpine mp3 deck and it'll sound great i only have an amp that powers my two 10s in my trunk
the first thing is to get rid of your stock hu. Then get good speakers to replace your stock ones. remeber, you get what you pay for, the cheaper you go the less quality you get. also if you are really worried about sq then get a seperate amp for your door and rear speakers. also get a eq it will be 1000% better with an eq. but real sound systems are expensive. if you don't plan a putting subs in you can get a small amp to power you fronts and 6x9's and with a good eq and some time you can make 6x9's sound like 10's.

Dude,
My 95 LE has the aluminum finned amp under the pas seat and with a Pioneer HU DEH-P4600MP MP3 and it jambs well enough for all but the folk who want hearing aids in there mid 30's. All you need is a new HU and the two harness adapters, one form the pioneer to make it standard and the other adapter to connect to the Toy dash harness and your done.
A word of caution though. If you have the Amp i think it is rated at 4 Ohm so be careful what speakers you shove in there or you will have a mismatch and no usable power output.
I am not saying the factory amp will rattle your cage but it does have pretty fair base and the new Super Tuners have a built in Crossover which is pretty nice. I am very happy with the $180 dollar head unit and the factory amp.
Hopefully mine doesn't catch fire like the one in the other post...
