Question on how to remove the knuckle/rotor assembly - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I have a 1998 Camry, and need to remove the knuckle that the rotor and wheel bolts onto. I have removed the wheel, caliper, rotor, and the axle nut, but can't figure out how to remove the knuckle. Any help is appreciated.

The two bolts that go in the bottom of the strut are also part of the same assembly. There are slo bolts in the underside of the knuckle, or nuts, I can't really remember.

What he said. the strut mount bolts, then the lower control arm bolts. once you get those out you should be able to get it off with no problem.

Make sure you got all brake lines and ABS wires and such disconnected first though. would hate to have to replace any of those.

The lower ball joint on the control arm is holding it in. You'll have to undo those bolts. The tie rod end also connects to the sterring knuckle. You'll need to remove that too. The tie rod end is a lot easier to remove with the lower ball joint still in place, so do it first. I've got a Gen 3 so I don't know what is different.

Um... when Andy (aGen5camry) and I disconnected the knuckle assembly while we were installing the springs on my Camry, all we had to do was remove the two huge bolts at the bottom of the strut assembly that the knuckle goes into, and then the tie rod that DailyDriveCamry mentioned had to be removed. After that, it just came out. I didn't have to remove all that stuff that you did (ie. caliper, rotor, and axle nut)

^^^^ YEs that is tru but all you wer doing was replacing the springs/struts. IF all he is trying to do is remove the struts that would work. His question was about removing the entire knuckle assembly though.

And yeah you have to remove the tie rod end also. FOrgot about that.

Thanks everyone that posted. I will take a closer look after work today and will post pictures as to why I had to remove the knuckle.
