just curious, how many watts per channel does the stock stereo put out? i have the CD-only type unit. most brand-name stereos give 18-20 watts X 4. jus wonderin...
and some other guy posted three times about an intake... why am i suspecting something more than coincidence?
oh, and to answer your question, call your dealer's accesories store and they'll be able to tell you.

No idea. However, the speaker that I pulled out of my door had "15W" stamped on it.
generally, i think when it's stamped on the speaker it means the speakers max or optimal output. it doesn't neccesarily mean the output that DOES go through it from the stereo.
example - you buy 250 w speakers at a store but use a stock deck, you're not sending 250 w to the speakers.

I know...I guess I should have explained some more
Since it's stamped 15W, the head unit probably puts out 15W or close to it.
Since it's OE equipment, I suspect that the speaker is very closely matched to the output of the stock head unit since the Fujitsu Ten unit that came in my Camry. The HU was probably custom built to Toyota's specification by Fujitsu Ten. Considering how many of the stereos Toyota sells..how can they say no, (unless they don't have the production capacity).
Many lower cost stereos put out about 12-18Wx4 RMS, and I've rarely seen anything less than that, so I suspect that 15W is very close to what the HU puts out.

well sort of...ive got a 6CD changer, but it doesnt look any different to a lower grade car
according to the sales brochure all the units we have are the same wattage, they only have different functions...
this is a scan of the 'Sound System' section of the aussie sales brochure:
remember its 140W MAX! not 140W real output. I'd be suprised if it is 4x10w rms. AND they count tweeters as a separate speaker so it isnt "really" 6 speakers. Just a set of splits up front and rear speakers

Brand name stereo's?? 18-20x4?? Mine puts out 53x4!!
Stock depends on the year..but probobly around the 5-15W RMS mark.
4x53 is not quite correct, the realworld watt massurment is RMS messurment.
I have a Pioneer DEH-P2530R headunit in my car i delivers 4x50w *peak* but
in RMS it puts out 4x27 watts, so i guess your 4x53w stereo delivers anything between
4x19 to 4x30w RMS depending on the quality of the internal amp in the unit. If i guessed
that you have a sony stereo in your car would i be wrong?
That`s a different matter. Many people use their stereos do drive
the speakers and have a mono amp of the sub, but ofcourse
its best to use a 4+1 channel amp or a 4channe ampl + a mono amp
to make the most out of your speakers. By the way Panasonic makes
the stock stereos for toyota, unless you have one with the otional JBL
stereo ofcourse
